Little tiny cuts and tears?

Hi,

Since I was about 10 years old I have always got kind of cuts/tears, the cut would normally appear above my clitorial hood where my outer lips meet. I also get them on my vulva aswell, but they are soooo tiny.

They are red, itch and sometimes they bleed, I honestly do not know what it is. I have been getting this for a while now, I looked up LS and saw some pics and it said it could cause tears or cuts.

I really need someone’s opinion, I really do not know what it is and I don’t want it to be herpes or something? It’s never been a blister it’s just basically like a scratch and it heals within 3/4 days, unless I’m wearing tight underwear or clothing then it can take up to a week to heal. I’m not in any pain, it only hurts if I touch it. I have been std checked and I’m free.

I don’t know if I get the cuts because the area they are in are close together and could rub. I’ve never been to the doctors about it because it just seems normal to me, I do have a doctors appointment soon. Hopefully I will get some answers, please can someone tell me their opinion! Thank you!

Jade, mine was difficult to diagnose because it presented as almost papercuts on the perineum. I kept blaming my clothes. Then I got some tiny cuts exactly where you are describing and it made my clitoris hurt very much and become hypersensitive. Soon after I noticed the hood closed up over and the skin did not retract. Seems super glued.

I kept being treated for dryness and the anatomical changes were not being noted by my doctor. She also treated me for herpes of all things without a culture. Because I told her I had a spot on the labia that kept getting a sore that would come and go. The labia just near vagina has now dissolved or fused looking absent with only a white line where it used to be. I believe I lived with this about 7 years not recognizing it could actually be something other than irritation. Please tell your doctor everything and get biopsied. I wish I had been examined more and not just talked to and then prescribed the wrong medication. I feel for you. Let me know what happens.

Hi Julia, yes I do get some cuts on my perinium aswell sometimes but I mainly get them in the places I said before. So what actually was it? Was it LS?

Yes. Mine turned out to LS and not herpes. Definitely you will want to know if you are going to a doctor that is knowledgeable in this.

I have had such inadequate doctors that have been guessing what treatment I should have, so I have an appointment set to go to Dr. Goldstein in Washington DC. It's going to be quite a drive to get there and extremely expensive but he specializes in this condition. I want to be positive about which medication I'm supposed to take, and he also has some procedures he can do for correction of the architecture that has been damaged.

Hi Jade, it does sound like Lichen Sclerous. The cuts you are describing are tiny and very painful and It is one of the symptoms of Lichen Sclerosus.

Some other symptoms with LS are..

    Painfull sex

white plaque of skin around your Vjay

    blisters

    sores

    red rash/spots

    itching

perhaps you have some of these?

In any case, you need to find a Vulva Specialist as doctors aren't very clued up on LS.  If you do not have a Vulva clinic near you then a gynaecologist or dermatologist might work but I would inquire first if they have any real experience in treating LS, because it can really impact your treatment if they dont know anything about this disease.

You may need to have a biopsy if you do not have any other signs of LS.

    ..

    ....

      Hi, thank you for replying.

With you saying the symptoms, I actually have quite white skin around my clitoris and just basically patches around my vagina. I do itch quite a lot and yeah I get the tiny cuts.

I have always wondered what could this be!!!

Hi, in that case, you need to see someone to confirm it.  Often a doctor can give you a visual diagnosis but sometimes you might need to have a biopsy.   If you read some of the older threads on this site it will give you lots of info.

Jade- you should def. be checked for LS. My Dr. I itially thiught I had herpes and had hirten it from my hubby having a cold when he was “ down there orally 🙄”, but all tests came back negative and then it got nuch worse and I had 6 biopsy sites- all 6 were LS. So please do find a Dr., and get ot checked out!
