little worried

I had a scan yesterday due to having a blood test CA125 which came back at level 26, somy doctor wanted me to have a scan to check if there was someting going on. They found I had a fibroid so today I seen my GP who did an internal examination and said he is refuring me to the consultant as it is a large fibroid in my womb and feels like a mass so just wants to have it checked out. My periods have started to become infrequent at first they where regular but a little heavier then they stopped for about 4 months then started again but it was normal a few weeks later i had a period that lasted for 2 weeks and was so heavy i thought my inside where falling out. then it stopped the 2 weeks later I had another one but this time it was normal now I haven't had one for 2 months

I have since read up on fibroids and found that they are non-cancerous but can cause the CA125 blood test to be raised and mine was 26  as I told you before. Would you agree that a fibroid could raise the level of the blood test?

The other problem I have noticed is that i have to wee more often please can other help put my mind at rest as I am worried

Don't know about your blood test results but the last few weeks before I had my fibroid removed I was needing to pee so often due to the fibroid pressing on my bladder.

I had one very large intra-uterine fibroid.

Hope you can get yours removed.

You are urinating more posiible because you have pressure from the womb the uterus leaning on the Bladder.. make a diary of how often you pee and how much.. is it okay no smell and straw coloured..if you dont void correctly the his can cause you to get a bladder infection. The white cell blood count is normally low if you have carcinoma of any sort.. Fibroids are non cancerous and fibrous tissue.. Get larger with Oestrogen hormone..I had a Hysterectomy and 5 large fibroids removed inside the womb.. I had two babies with them sharing the Fibroids luckily my last child was small.. I had one Miscarriage.. Best thing I ever did was to have a hysterectomy which takes 3-6 months to recover from all being well...Usually periods are very heavy and clots are produced..CA125 test does raise the test with any type of cancer.. Dont worry I am sure its benign as they usually are.. I had a cystocele which is where the Womb layed onto the Bladder causing problems with urination.. I am fine now, had my Ovaries left in and womb removed 2004..Menopause was quite easy and now in 2015 its over. and I am much better having the heavy load removed and looking 5 months pregnant most of the time.

I think the pressure of fibroid is making you want yo wee, it did with me, your hormones i have read are increased due to having a fibroid.  The CA125 is what they monitor if there are changes they can be linked to breast cancer, hence why they push for a hysterectomy in my case, and removal of both ovaries to decrease my chances of breast cancer, something which is genetic, however, not in my family heance my refusal.  Fibroids are masses which are non-cancerous, I had UAE and it worked for me.  Blood results fall within a range have you checked what CA125 range is, it may just be slightly out.  Take carex

    Hi Joy,

I can only speak for me , for my particular "fibroid" and what happened to me.

I have a large "fibroid". I was constantly going to the toilet to pass urine , including waking up during the night to go to the toilet to pass urine , I also noticed that my bowels stopped opening and I was not able to open my bowels.

I went to A+E and I explained to one of the doctors that I was constantly going to the toilet to pass urine , to the point of even waking up during the night several times to go to the toilet to urinate. Doctor requested one of the nurses to bladder scan me. Bladder scan showed quite a lot of urine retention, basically my bladder was filling up and filling up with urine and not emptying properly.

The nurse inserted a catheter which helped to drain all the urine retention I had and I was given intravenous fluids , intravenous antibiotics, after that , the catheter was removed and since then I do not seem to have urine retention, I seem to go to the toilet well without having to constantly go to the toilet trying to pass urine.

I also had the CA125 blood test which came back higher than yours.

As I say, I am only speaking for what has happened to me as a patient. Hope that helps.

I have two large fibroids and a mass of others in decreasing sizes, I wee all the time. It is a terrible nuisance especially when sometomes I have to get up 3 or 4 times in the night. I am on Zoladex injections now, just waiting for my hysterectomy in a few weeks time. Before I went on treatment my periods were lasting 18 days out of a 28 day cycle and I was losing huge blood clots ( I had ended up having to use incontinence pads). The pain was beyond anything I could express. Happily I have responded well to treatment and can't wait for my op.

The point is that this condition effects women in different ways and at different levels, but there are common features; going to the toilet and heavy and/or erratic periods being the most usual. Good luck with everything and you will feel better at some point :-) x

Thank you for your reply.  The doctor said it is very big and that there's a mass but didnt explain any more just said he was refusing me to a consultant. Sorry to hear you have been struggling but it's good news to know that you are going to have an op soon. Good luck getting sorted. Not sure how long I will have to wait to see a consultant but I'm sure it will all work out in the.

I am am so glad I found this site and such lovely people because at first when I was told I felt so very alone

so once again thank to everyone for you answers xx

    Dear Joy,

I would like to start by wishing you good luck and I hope you are able to get into a specialist as soon as possible. After meeting Dr I found out that the fibroids can bleed and it resembles your cycle. (my cycles were heavy—used several paper towels and night time pads together)

I know that everyone’s body reacts differently to the fibroids. I experienced hot flashes, cramps, sweating, hair loss, acne, period cycle change from 27 to 34 days, shortness of breath:

    ·         ended up on 4 inhalers

    ·         taking iron pills twice a day (fibroids caused anemia)

    ·         taking Aleve   (for pain)

    ·         distended uterus

    ·         massive weight gain and bloating

    ·         frequent urination

    ·         extreme constipation

    ·         finally it was hard to move around, or sit for long periods of time because of the   pain

Once my fibroids were removed: (Myomectomy)

They weighed 14 lbs instant weight loss

I have had three blood test no anemia (only taking a multivitamin)

Down to two inhalers and only using them  twice a week

I am still taking Aleve as needed for pain (I still have 2 tender spots and my surgery is 4.5 months old)

I am doing a few sit-ups, walking and gardening

Overall, I feel so much better.
