Liver and platelet issues

My husband was a heavy drinker 20 years ago, he stopped and would have a beer or 2 or 3 a couple times a week recently he became sick with severe diarrhea and was diagnosed with cdiff. He was put on Vancomycin for 10 days. it was discovered he had cirrohis through a CAT scan 2 months ago . We set up an appt with a gastro/hepatologist. They rechecked him for cdiff and was negative. They then scheduled an upped and lower scope. After his scope he had some bleeding from the rectum and kept him over night. He returned home and was still in pain from the acities and not sure what else. I called his GI doctor and they put him back on Vancomycin 500 mg every six hours for 10days. He was still suffering from horrific diarreha, several days layer he passed blood clots, and blood while having a BM. I rushed him to the ER, his platelets were 1000! He is going into his 3 week in the hospital, platelets still low after several IVIG transfusions, bilirubin was finally down to 6 they shot up to 15 today, his kidney functions are normal, and all other labs have been normal. The doctors are thinking that for some reason something and they dont know what, is fighting his platelets and liver. This is taking a toll on us, especially since i cant be with him in the hospital Has anyone every had these types of things go on with your liver, if so can someone maybe give me some answers? Thanks so much!

I'm sorry you are going through this. especially at this time. i was diagnosed with Budd Chiari , cirrorhis and essential thrombocytopenia (too many platelets. i spent a month in our local hospital only getting sicker. My husband asked for a higher level of care and i was transferred to the University Hospital who does transplants and has the only MPN specialist in our state you can search for myeloproliferative neoplasm specialists for your state. i hope this us helpful, let me know if you gave more questions or even just support You have to be his advocate.

iI am sorry for your dilema , I had a laprascope of my bile ducts while removing my gaulbladder. For 2 weeks I threw up blood , eating and drinking were too painful. At that time I had around 100k platlets. Now down to 50k range for 2 years, every Dr. I see wants to scope me from both ends but after what I experienced with twice the platlets won't consider it. l have experienced sudden platlet loss due to spleen swelling. Blesdings to you both through these difficult times.
