Liver Cyst

Hi,
I have had continual pain in my right ribs for some time now, it is like a knife is stuck in them from the inside, sometimes the pain suddenly becomes worse and basically floors me in tears. A few years ago my gallbladder was removed and although I had bouts of pain before this I was never hospitalised , after it was removed I was hospitalised four times in serious pain and vomiting bright green bile. Nothing was found wrong with my liver just a potential stone on the bile duct that another doctor said had cleared itself so the ERCP was cancelled.
On a recent check for something else a 6cm cyst was picked up on the left lobe of the liver. i visited my GP regarding the results and she states that this is a simple cyst and will not cause any problems or pain so no follow up is required.
I am slightly confused after reading some of the posts on here and concerned as it seems that there is a fine balance between leaving the cyst alone and removing it before it becomes to large too.
Could anyone please tell me that if the cyst is on the left liver lobe would it only cause pain in the right ribs. Thank you for any advice

i had pain in my back for two years before we found out it was a large hemangioma on my liver that was actually pushing on my spine. I would highly recommend a second opinion from a GI doctor or Hepatologist. they specialize in the liver - GPs don't. i received very different answers from my GP and second opinion. Then i went to a liver transplant surgeon - he was able to give so much more information and preformed the liver resection. you have to be your own advocate.

Thank you for your reply Kendra, I have followed this up and ask to see a consultant, the GP has said okay she will refer me then. . Yes the pain goes straight through to my back too. I went to see the GP last week regarding the pain and they said as I had blood and protein in my urine it was a kidney infection, gave me antibiotics and told me to come back today. I went back today and saw a different Dr who said carry on taking the antibiotics and didn't even check my urine.
I was not sure what a hemangioma was so i just looked it up, a benign tumour - that sounds scary. It sounds like you have had it removed, hows the pain now?
Thank you so much for speaking to me

The pain was pretty bad with the hemangioma, thats the only reason initially went to the Dr. They did all the kidney work up and an ultrasound which is how it was found. I've never had that same pain since (2014). In 2017 I had a hysterectomy which i could not recovrr from. Eventually it was determined I had a blood clot in my only hepatic vein that was remaining from my first surgery. After the last 2 years we discovered I have a blood disorder. My situation was the perfect storm. if i had not had a diligent PA to begin with I might have a different story. Be your own advocate and get as many options as you need to feel better. is the pain resolving with the antibiotics?
