I have had three lft which have shown my alt to go from 20 down to 5. Have looked on line and can't find anything about low level alt. Can anyone shed some light please.

In the UK or at least my foundation trust area, it is given as 10 - 50.

I doubt anyone is going to give you any pointers as to why yours is low, because they are so many unknown factors. Have you spoken to your GP about it?

Thank you for your reply. Yes the gp has referred for a ultrasound, just quite anxious as to what could cause the decline. Have also lost significant amount of weight and been suffering from excessive sweating.

Good, an ultrasound is the best way to check your internal organs. A lot of radiologists won't discuss the results, but some will, if you don't sound nervous and I always engage mine and often learn more than is ever explained to me afterwards. Blood tests are only an indicator of a potential problem, they do not really point out what the problem is, only that further investigation is warranted.

ALT figures are normally the worry of people who have high readings, which can indicate liver damage or that the liver is under stress, due to say, high alcohol consumption. It is unusual for somebody to be on the low side. There are sites on the web that mention low ALT levels, I found them within a few seconds, but I think you would only be necessarily worrying yourself. Wait for the ultrasound and then you will know for sure.
