Living Hell!

I started taking Symvastatin 20mg daily in Jan 09. At the same time I was taken off Ibuprofen which I have been taking for a long time for arthritic pain in my knees. Consequently, I thought this was the reason for my pain. I cannot get up from a seat, my inner thights, upper arms hurt so much, my feet, hips, shoulders everything hurts. I feel like an old woman, but I work full time & dont want to be off work. Seeing the Doc. today, something has to change. Im relieved that I am not alone, but hope this gets better.

Stop taking them. I thought I wouldn't live until Christmas, I was convinced I was dying. Stop taking them and you will feel 100% better.

I have been on simvastatin for about 18 months. over the last 4 months I have been getting increasing leg and muscle pain. I am 49 and could hardly walk. I took myself off the simvastatin by accident as i went away on holiday and forgot theM, the improvement is almost instantaneous. I have been to see my GP who is checking for an enzyme to ensure I have no muscle damage. The GP is well aware of the terrible side affects this medication has. op taking them and stay off of them. Good luck

I stumbled on this site by accident, but pleased that I did! I have been taking simvastatin for a number of years, 40mg dose. I'm 55 now and a recent blood test showed my cholesterol to be 5.6. I had a letter from the doctor and collected a new prescription which advised me to take 2 tablets at night (80mg). This I did. Well I took them for 4 nights and then phoned the doctors as I felt awful. Dizziness, spaced out, aches everywhere etc. I have been off them for two nights and feel a little better. I have to stay off any tablets for a fortnight and then try a new tablet to control my cholesterol. I have the \"inherited\" type of high cholesterol but still watch my diet etc. although this doesn't seem to have any impact on the levels. I'm not overweight, moderately active and work full time. I hadn't realised 'til reading other peoples experiences that I've probably been experiencing side effects from this drug for a long time but attributed them to the \"ageing process\"!!
