I've had a few more tests, saw a specialist a couple weeks ago, got to have another ultra sound on my gall bladder on friday. Took more bloods and a poo sample!! nice!. But they are still saying the hernia wouldnt give me the pain i'm getting!! Like you, i think i'm stuck with it unless i win the lottery and go private!!. Are you on Facebook? x

Hi there. I have a small 5cm epi gastric hernia diagnosed now by my UK NHS GP after my delay of 3 months because i did not realise it was not weight gain. i am now on a waiting list to see consultant for possible op.

I am now concerned about increase in the size of it and complications from op.

I empathise with all your situations. I am now eating smaller plates re meals and have lost weight which helps me and has releived masses of pain. Tablets help too. Excercise good to support tone of body muscles.

Try googling self help and alternative treatments for each type of hernia.

      Best wishes

Hi Sharon..I live in the US ..wanted to let you know you're not alone..I also have a huge ventral hernia...started out small..and was ignored by doctors because they said it was harmless..I wasnt insured for several years so I couldnt get it repaired..now its nearly as big as a beach ball..very uncomfortable..very embarrassing to live with. I need to lose at least 80 to 100lbs for them to operate..its been so hard..I lose some...then i lose the motivation..This hernia has taken a toll on my quality of life..I am weary with it.. THe surgery will be complicated, but my doctor said he can fix it..I have no choice but to have faith in him. I also have breathing issues due to Asthma and years of smoking..which Ive been quit for 4 years now...I would send a pic if I knew how...but I will watch your progress and you can watch mine also...thank you for sharing your story..Ive felt very alone with this health issue..I know there is help for us...Blessings to you.

      Hi,

I, too, live in the US. My hernia was ignored at first. It is now huge. I am like Sharon, I look hugely pregnant. I can't go anywhere or do anything. Yesterday I was told that the hernia is inoperable - there is too much loss of abdominal room. Tell me what they said they can do for you,

      Kris

      Hi,

I, too, wish that this was fixed three years ago. It was just a small buldge then, but the horrid GI I saw thought I was just getting fat. I'm supposed to see the surgeon in Oct. I'm pretty sure he will tell me it is inoperable, just like the last doctor did. I'm afraid to see him as I've gained 30 lbs. in the year since I last saw him and he will surely be disgusted. I can't do anything, I can't walk, exercise or even go out of the house. I used to take pilates 3 or 4 times a week and yoga and dance classes. Now I am huge and can hardly walk. My husband is really fit and healthy and I think he is just waiting for me to die so he can find a new wife.

I really hope you can get some help..My hernia is huge but they say they can fix it...I surely hope so.. I am soo noT motivated..Ive also gained weight...Its hard to focus. I would hope that your husband would not be they type of person to do that to you....Have faith that you can get this fixed. If one doctor says no..then go see someone else..Go to a bigger hospital..Cleveland clinic is awesome. Please let me know how it goes with you...and I will let you know on my end also...

How are you? I still haven't had any progress on surgery decision. I've had two doctors tell me I would die if I had the surgery. Who do you see at Cleveland Clinic? I'm so afraid of surgery. My surgery to resect my large bowel, temp illeostomy and reconnection was really messed up. They reconnected it too low and that caused all sorts of problems. I got a major wound infection that had to be packed daily for five months.

      Have you had surgery yet?

Hi Goondi in the U.S., How are you doing? When I read your message to Sharon about your hernia , I could have written it myself. I have exactly the same problem you described. I am waiting to get in rolled in the Obama Care in Nov. I to am in the U.S. ( Louisiana ) 1 year ago I was told I have 4 hernias, One of them was 7cm and another was 5cm. the others were a bit smaller. I am over weight by 100lbs. weight loss is so difficult. I can't do a lot of exercises and my metabolism feels non- existence. I had emergency abdominal surgery in 2013 that resulted in a hysterectomy and my abdominal cavity had to be irregated because of a ruptured appendix. The hernias began forming 5wks after surgery. When I complained about the bulge that was painfully forming, I was told they are non life threatening and with the insurance I had the only available Doctors that could help me were AWFUL! They made me feel worthless and insignificant because of my weight. Now I have to tell people I meet for the first time that I'm not pregnant. I'm 50 yrs old so I do get curious looks. Have you had surgery yet? until I read these stories I also felt alone in dealing with this. Sad part of my story is I have young children, 2 daughters, 10 &13. My 10 year old is so afraid of something happening to me she has anxiety attacks. I cry jn my room in private because I know she has been teased about having an older, overweight mom, she is the sweetest child in the world and would and never say she has been teased. I want my life back. This hernia has kept me from field trips, play dates and parties. Sorry, a little venting going on there. please let me know how your doing. Thanks for sharing. Paula

Hi Paula, I came her looking for answers, I too have an incisional hernia and share a similar story. I am 50 and live in the US, in Virginia. I had a terrible motorcycle accident in july of 2013 and I had lost my spleen due to internal bleeding. They cut me from breastbone to pubic bone, among many other injuries, 9 broken ribs on my left side, and a punctured lung, i was left on Oxygen because my O2 levels were severly depleated. COPD they told me, even though i smoked for years, I never had trouble before....none the less, I quite smoking but a few months later a bulge began to form.....I now have a huge incisional hernia that causes extreme pain, it feels like I have this huge ball that is right under my sternum making it uncomfortable most of the time. It seems to harden with what I eat and looks horrible. Because I am still on Oxygen they told me they can't do surgery because I would end up on a ventilator. I'm about 100 pounds overweight and I've been told that until it gets stuck in the opening, there is nothing they can do :-(...I came here looking to see if anyone had the same pain and how they alleviated it

Hi there. How are you now? Did you get your hernia issue "fixed?" If so, did you have a "wide open" surgery for the repair? I am also in the US and have had this for 2 years. I'm wondering also, in the meantime, might wearing a binder help the nausea?
