She ever crack her knuckles? Repetitive work with your hands can cause that to happen along with other painful problems.

Probably trigger finger.  It's very uncomfortable whilst it lasts and it can last for several months, but it does get better on its own.  The usual first line of treatment is to tape the little finger to the next finger which acts as a sort of splint.  Some medics will suggest giving an injection into the hand, but it was a pharmacist who told me that both he and his brother had experienced the same thing over the years, advising me to leave well alone and that my thumb would eventually right itself.  Recently, I passed on the same advice to  friend's hubby but he decided to see his GP who referred him to hospital.  That appointment took 3 months to come through by which time his finger had returned to normal!

Hi marc.  If this doesn't show signs of improving soon, she could try cortisone injections which provide short term relief.  I know from experience and that of other people that often, the only long term solution is to have tendon release surgery.  This is a very simple procedure and usually done under local anaesthetic with a quick recovery afterwards.  I had a trigger thumb which was only temporarily relieved by injections and because I put off surgery for too long, the surgery I did have had to be done under general anaesthetic as the condition had worsened over time.  Nevertheless, it was very successful and pain free and cured it once and for all.  My only regret was that I didn't opt for surgery earlier.  Its a very common condition and little children often get this.  My son had a trigger thumb when he was 3 and was cured by surgery.  I do sympathise as I know the pain of this is horrible.  Hope things work out for her soon.  All the best.
