Locking ankle

For the last year my ankle has been "locking". by locking i mean i cannot put weight on it - like a severe sprain. I can only pull my foot towards me about 75% with pretty bad pain kicking in from 50%. i can point my toes almost completely with only a little pain.
With the risk of seeming pessimistic - i cannot bear full weight on it. i cannot walk properly. i cannot drive a manual car (clutch use) but automatic i have no issues. The more i move it the worse/tighter it gets. When it does unlock its one of three ways : sometimes i can push it to a very audible "crack" with a fair pain level and even more so for the crack. Sometimes i move my foot and it had miraculously gone and other times i move it, it cracks, its so wowfully painful but unlocked.
i have tried: paracetamol, ibuprofen, hot and cold, hot bath, cold bath, stretching, yoga, walking it off, pushing through, force (less than 10%of the time works and dont want to over do it).
If i try and walk it off it cracks and crunches all through my foot and ankle. The longer it is locked for the less mobile.
Locking varies from seconds to 17 hours so fsr.
I have currently had: x-ray -normal but minor spurs deemed not to be a factor, MRI - normal apart from fluid on my joint which could have been caused by trauma.
i have had all forms of blood tests including for rheumatoid arthritis.....today or tomorrow is the due due for results.
This has been an ongoing thing since last November.
Both my physio and doctor are baffled and i just want an idea as to what is going on or at least if someone else has this?!!
I have seen an ankle surgeon (xray review) and he has never seen my circumstance.
Does anyone have any possible ideas as to what might be going on please?

I never had your problem but would highly recommend Dr Fortin at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak Michigan. He performed my ankle replacement and I am so impressed with his knowledge. Just a suggestion if you live nearby.

Thank you for replying 😃
Unfortunately i like in the UK but i appreciate your recommendation!
An update for anyone reading this.........
I got my blood tests back and they were all clear. I went back to the surgeon for the MRI results this week and he has discharged me from his care as there doesn't look like anything bone related. He said he could see a "little swelling" at the back of my heel...but nothing that would cause locking.
Honestly, its the worst. It locked for 15 hours last week....through the night and half the morning. Was on the phone to the doc to say "i'm coming in! It's locked" and whilst on the phone it made an awful crack (like clapping your hands) and unlocked. I am still in a position where the doctors haven't actually seen it lock.
SO frustrating.
Still, i remain a medical mystery. Please, if anyone has ever had these symptoms or knows what might be going on....please help me get an idea..?
Thank you 😃 x
