I have been going through the menopause for about 7 years and have had enough. is it to late to start taking HRT?

No, it isn't. Speak with your gyn about it. There are different options that are less dangerous than taking it orally. Using a cream keeps the estrogen localized rather than taking pills which exposes more of your body to the effects of hormones.
