Long recovery from Aquablation

I had the aquablation procedure 4 weeks ago and a catheter for a week after that. I've had BPH for years and ended up with unrinary retention in mid-Sept. Very large prostate. Catheter went in then until the Aquablation procedure. Main issue with recovery has been incontinence. Doctors say to expect a longer recovery. My urologist says this isn't unusual, my main doctor says 4 to 6 weeks can be typical, but mine may be longer. I'm overweight, not very active - and catheter in for six weeks prior to the procedure. Taking Flomax and a diuretic and Lisinopril (for blood pressure) daily. Curious about the experience of others during recovery. Thanks - AJ.

I think you'll see a big difference once you get off the
flomax and possibly , the diuretics.
Since you've been opened up and you're taking Flomax, which relaxes the muscles even more, I would expect incontinence. The diuretic basically make you go to the bathroom more.

Thank you. I agree w you on cutting back on medications. I have a check w my urologist this week to see if I'm retaining urine. I've asked them about stopping Flomax. Will check with my main doctor on the BP meds as well. That'll depend on what I can do about my BP with diet and exercise. Another incentive to improve.

Had Aquablation surgery on 9th October having suffered high retention which was impacting my kidney function. Op was fine and after, no pain. Had cath in for 2 days and then TWOC, which did not work. Cath back in. Another TWOC tried 2 weeks later. Again unsuccessful. Cath back in/ TWOC tried again last Monday. Uro had prescribed Tomsalin for at least 3 days before TWOC. After cath taken out I was able to pass jut over 500ml in 5 hours. This was over 3 toilet visits. The first passed less than 10ml next was about 150ml and finaly just over 350ml. I thought great as no pain or discomfort. Then the nurse returmed to check and discovered I was retaining 625ml and decided a cath must be put back. My initial euphoria was immediately bpmbed/
I see the Uro tomorrow, a pre-arranged post op consultation. I hope the news will be good. I had already been advised having a catheter long term makes the bladder lazy. Had a catheter in for 9 weeks before the Op. Not overweight or on any meds apart from Tomsalin

Did see Uro yesterday ( Thursday). He was not happy that local practice had decided to insert another catheter when TWOC was completed. Uro's view as I have large bladder 1.6litre, the retention is not a worry. Will only be so if I have pain or leakage during night. Uro is instructing my local GP practice to remove etc. Uro offered to remove cath. at clinic. As I had a 7 hour trip home decided against and to have at my local practice. Hope that is not a bad decision ( Local GP does not act so quick)
