long term carbimazole

I am on carbimazole and propranolol for a very overactive thyroid. My GP has suggested radioactive iodine. Why can't I have carbimazole indefinitely to deal with the hyperthyroid instead of having radioacive iodine and then becoming hypothyroid (which often happens its seems) and then having to take levo? is there a problem with taking carbimazole?

Thus happened to me 20+ years ago and my consultant found it impossible to get my thyroid steady with just carbimazole. I had thyroid eye disease and couldn't have radio iodine. So he tried block and replace. I have been fine now for over ten years. I take 20 mg carbimazole every day and 25and50 mg thyroxine every other day. Maybe block and replace would be worth a shot.

Just had a blood test and results are normal.

Worth you discussing this as a possible alternative to radioiodine.
