long term changes

I was diagnosed with LS about 5 years ago and I am now 80 and my husband is 76. I have been using Clobetasol Cream mostly only when I have a flair up. I am wondering about the changes taking place to my genitals. The Labia on my right side has totally disappeared and the one on the left is considerably smaller. So far I have not noticed any real changes to my Clitoris. I also use Estrace a couple of times a week on the outside and Coconut oil as a lubricant.

My husband and I still are sexually active and I'm wondering if there is anything else I can do to preserve what I have left. If the Clitoris goes then I guess sex will cease to be enjoyable for me. We have only been together for 7 years so I hate to think that part of our life will be affected. Fortunately all my problems have been on the outside of my Vagina.

Any advice from anyone on this subject?

    Hi Pat,

LS is a life long disease. You have to maintain using your steroid cream/ointment twice a week. When you have a flare, you must go back to every day for a month, every other day for a month and then progress back onto twice a week.

Please use an emollient to wash with, it really does help!

Keeping yourself moisturised on the entire vulva will prolong and for some even stop the fusing along with the correct usage of the steroid.

The clitoris is actually quite large and the glans (what we often think is the clitoris) is only the tip. Sex can still be enjoyable with a reduced glans. I find that when I apply compounded estrogen cream it helps to stop the atrophy.
