Long term insomnia and advice I've received

Posted , 1 user is following.

I'm 72 and have suffered chronic insomnia for 20 years. Over that time, I've taken Ambien, sonata, Lunesta, trazadone, Belsomra, and Halcion. A sleep study found no issues. I've been using Lunesta 3 mg nightly for about three years and have developed a tolerance that's resulted in an average of 5 hours sleep a night. Nevertheless, it works as well as the other drugs, without as many side effects, e.g., Halcion makes me groggy throughout the next day. Many of the available adjuncts have negative effects on my digestive system. Anyway, I'll welcome suggestions. I do suffer anxiety but can't tolerate any of the usual meds. FWIW, my doc said that, when I awake at say 0300, I struggle too much worrying about falling back asleep, and that I and many others can do just fine on 5 hours. I feel pretty good when I get up, but get a little fatigued late in the afternoon.
