Long term pain, fatigue and sickness. No diagnosis

I have been suffering constant and often severe pain in my upper right quadrant radiating to my back. Symptoms started late December 2014 and haven't eased since.

I have had Gastrostomy and an MRI of the area both of which have shown little, only slight thickening of the gallbladder walls. I am currently taking Tramadol 50mg as required through the day, usually 3 to 4 as I am still having to work (as a mechanic of all things) and don't want it affecting my mental ability. I have also been taking amitriptyline 50mg at night to help me sleep though these have been changed to Gabapentin.

In short I have had this pain for a very long time and as it is not something obvious there seems to be a lack of interest in finding the cause. Instead I seem to be getting mugged off with painkillers which isn't a cure. My daily life is poor, I go work and by the time I am finished I am in agony so dose up and go bed which is affecting my family life and even my 2 children are noticing.

What has now got me worried is that a work colleague has recently opened up to me about how his sister died. She was suffering a similar pain to myself for 18 months, she kept going doctors who kept saying it was Cyatica, by the time she had been admitted into hospital she was diagnosed with advanced cancer and unfortunately died soon after. Now I am not saying this is what I have, however there is something wrong and it could be something life threatening yet I am now being told it is a nerve issue with no diagnosis to back it up.

So to summarise I am in pain and getting very worried. I have no idea how to move forward with this or get the answers I want. Any advise on how I can progress or any ideas what may be causing this will be very much appreciated.

I haven't had gall stones myself but hubby has, have you had a CT scan of your liver recently? I think you ought to bite the bullet take yourself off to A&E and find out. If there are stones the gall bladder needs to come out. It is done laprocospically these days as a day case.

I had an MRI of my gallbladder and they couldn't see any stones or blockage. Now they don't know what it is they don't seem interested. Last time I went to A&E I was basically told I was wasting their time because I clearly wasn't in enough pain sad just because I wasn't rolling around on the floor in agony doesn't mean I wasn't in pain. I was walking around with appendicitis for 3 days and this pain is a whole lot worse!

Have you been seen by an endocrinologist or a liver specialist?

Hi I am back, you are going to hate the next question, as your male and young do you binge drink? If so perhaps that is why the medics aren't interested. If that doesn't apply and you have I think a family, I are you itching, sweating, running a temperature, is your urine dark, stools pale, do you vomit, has the whites of your eyes changed, do you look tanned? Have you been abroad? If any apply go tomA&E

I have been seen by a surgeon, not sure what he specialised in but he was the one that organised the endoscopy and MRI.

As for drinking, I actually rarely drink , maybe a few times a year. Otherwise I am quite fit and healthy, although I am a heavy smoker.

As for other symptoms, I do often feel sick but not often actually sick but I am on anti sickness tablets rolleyes I am also incredibly tired, I slept 16hrs the other day and still felt shattered! Urine and stools are fine and I haven't been abroad, I don't even have a passport rolleyes

Hi you MUST see a doctor, I think you need to be seen in Rheumatology or endocrinology. Feeling nauseated and tired at your age should never be ignored. My advice would be to go to A&E and demand bloods, and more tests, if you don't drink alcohol you must have imflammitory markers for your liver. They will find those in A&E because you are ill. You must NOT be ignored, at your age!

I went to the doctors 4 days ago where I was given the Gabapentin rolleyes

I do think need to get it addressed, so maybe A&E is my last option as the doctors clearly aren't interested sad

Thanks for your advice, guess I just needed someone to agree with my thinking smile

I suggest you have coster chondritis - inflammation of the cartilage at the end of the rib. Had the same thing and it took ages to diagnose. Anti inflammatories clear it up quickly. Extremely painful and many sufferers end up presenting themselves to a&e with suspected heart attack. Hope this helps.

That could be the cause as I do feel the pain at the bottom of my ribs, I shall mention it to my doctor on my next visit.

However, I was on diclofenic for a while and did not help at all so went onto Tramadol rolleyes

There are anti yeast diets. Have you look into this as a digestion issue? Your entire diet might be all wrong. Best start is to spend a day or two drinking lots of liquids. Look up juicing and super foods. Then after two days of this get a notebook and slowly begin adding foods back and write all your symptoms down. It might help you realize a lot about whats going on. Possibly talk with an alternative doctor as well. They have heard and seen a lot as well from people. Doctors today are not so caring anymore. They have specialists inside specialists and the care gets crappy. They need but do not look at the whole person or all there symptoms anymore except on television. That log will be helpful no matter what anyway necause a gastrointestiinal doc would want that anyway. Look up way to cleanse the gallbladder, the liver, the stomach.
