Long term use of Amlodipine

Hi Have read all the posts with interest. I have been on 5mg of Amlodipine for many years.

Although I do get some slight ankle swelling sometimes it always goes down overnight, however I do also have arthritis and varicose veins. Gp did not seem concerned as I had or so I thought no real

other side effects. Reading what everyone has said I now wonder. I have suffered from a post nasaldrip sinus thing since 2007 I started the Amlodipine a few months before. I had a scan of the sinuses

and it was normal, however I still have it. The problem is I am on several different medications for

asthma, thryoid, ibs as well. I get frustrated with any new symptoms I have not knowing if it a

particular drug, or interaction. I tend to agree with some of you what did they do before we had all

these drugs. I hate taking them all but do as Gp says apart from simvastatin found that caused awful

aches pains which I don't need already have them with arthritis. I would be grateful for any

comments also do you think as I have been on them for such a long time my problems are not caused by them . Thanks for reading.

Hello liberallady13, nice to meet you. Sounds like you didn't do too bad on the Amlodipine as some of us. I had severe reaction going on and severe coming off. Have you discussed these concerns with your dr? Are the side effects something you think you can live with? What ever you decide....DO NOT STOP AMLODIPINE cold turkey like my doc had me do. And Simvastatin isn't even supposed to be prescribed with Amlodipine anyway.. It's a shame that after losing 70 ilbs with diet and exercise....and quit smoking I no longer needed any of these meds. Now suffer from neuropathy in arms, hand, legs and feet. My whole body aches and yhe fiery burning and swelling drive me crazy. Increase my activity and I it gets worse.

So if you think your doing ok on this med....or still need it....it's up to you. All I know is that our bodies are not meant for these drugs...so if you can....eat rifght and exercise and go the hollistic way.

Thank you Michelle,  I am so sorry you are suffering so badly.  You are to be congragulated on loosing 70 ibs.  As you say it's a shame that after your hard work you no longer needed these drugs.  A lesson for us all about weight, diet and exercise.  You are right I have not done too badly on Amlodipine, but I appreciate that many do not.
