Longer leg with knee replacement foot pain

Hi there. You all saved me when I had my knee replacement almost 2 years ago. So thank you.

I was wondering if any of you who have had a TKR and are walking in it for a year or do have developed foot pain. My knee doesn't hurt anymore (Yay!) but that foot really hurts when I take my daily walk. I end up having to take 2 or 3 Ibuprofen 800's. Had it x-rayed and the leg with the TKR is longer and they just say I have arthritis in my foot. But it never hurt before. I am hoping I can get some orthotics to even out my walk but just curious if this has happened to anyone. I am really limping because of this. Thank you in advance smile

Hi - I am 5 months post TKR and the knee is doing well but my feet are killing me !!  I have developed a neuroma on the TKR leg foot which makes me feel like I have a stone in my shoe all the time as well as numbness in the toes. My other foot I have intense heel pain and my arch has fallen....I am limping more now than I was at 2 months post op. It certainly is a journey. Apparently I will need surgery to remove the neuroma but have had a series of accupuncture treatments to see if that helps. It didn't. I am doing stretches on the archillies tendon in the other foot to help the heel pain and it is making a difference so fingers crossed it all fades away eventually. MY physio was not at all interested in helping with this so I have stopped going. All the best. Jenni.

Thank you Jenni. My Dr. (Kaiser) doesn't feel these are related to knee but it sure didn't hurt before I had it done. And I don't think my leg was longer before either. I'm hoping I can get some orthotics as they say I have fallen arches in that foot. Ps. I used to live in Auckland for a short time smile

Boy,that's some dosage of ibuprofen.  Does doc recommend that much?

dont know your whereabouts but in the UK we are only supposed to swallow 1x400 at a take.

      Mike,

I am in California. My Dr. prescribed for me. I know it is a lot but so far I have had no issues. I work on my feet so I need to take 2 to 3 a day. Thank you for your reply. Maybe I'll substitute one dose with Tylenol.

      Have a great day,

Hi Suzanne, have you considered seeing a Chiropractor? It MAY be you need a manipulation to release your pelvis & spine. It can make it seem one leg is longer than gone other.

I had a bad back years ago & was sent for physiotherapy, the Physio asked me if I ever wore built up shoes as one leg was longer.

Nothing was ever done about it for years until I saw a chiropractor for several weeks, who adjusted my spine & pelvis & hey presto 2 legs the same length again! It can happen due to injury or after operations, so maybe....

I don't know where in the world you are, but if you have medical insurance some companies will pay for things like osteopathy or chiropractic. Unfortunately not on the NHS!

    All the best

      Thanks Marilyn,

I am in California. I will try a chiro. It has helped me before surgery. Thanks.

    Hey Suzanne,

I'm just reading your post and a few questions come to mind.

Is the foot pain in your heel ? Is painful even at rest?

Reason I'm asking is you said your a walker. Could it be plantar fasciitis?

If so a good pair of inserts in your shoes to support your arch and stretching the tendons in your

    ankle helps a lot.

    Just a thought

The pain is on the top of my foot mostly. I have had planter facitus and have old inserts from Dr. But they are old from before knee replacement. I should get new ones because I am sure my foot is hitting the ground differently. Thank you for your comment.
