Thanks. I'll go back to GP and hope he can help me find a BP drug without this unfortunate side effect. If not then I'll take your advice and walk!

    Hi,

I am 72 and was dignosed with high BP in 1990. I was put on Adalat(nifedipine) for 11 years and changed to atenol in 2001. The adalat left me with tinnitus but I had no real side effects with atenolol. Unfortunately, my BP started to creep up after several years so my GP added Bendrflumethiaside (diuretic). No side effects apart from weeing a bit more often, and BP was under control once more (138/87). A month ago my BP was up again(151/95) so my GP added Amlovasc to the other two prescriptions. Although my BP dropped to 137/87 within a week and I started to feel permanenly tired, the BP stayrd down. After 3 weeks I was getting strange noises in my head and having weird dreams. Then the swolen ankles and legs started! It was worst in the evening and putting my feet up didn't seem to make any difference. Last Saturday I felt as if my head was filled with porridge, I couldn't get my normal shoes on, I felt depressed, worn out, and my tinnitus so loud I was sure others could hear it. That's it, I thought. Stop taking the Amlovasc.

Within 4 days my ankles are fine, the tinnitus back to its usual level, I'm sleeping better, feeling much brighter altogether!

The BP is still OK ,at the moment, but I see my GP on Wednesday and I am going to ask him about some herbal treatment for BP (no side effects)that I have seen on the internet.

There MUST be a better way than Amlovasc!!
