Looking for a set of bath steps

if there is such a thing.....

I'm scheduled to have my 2nd THR in 2 weeks and I was contemplating my navel (as you do) and remembering the issues I had last time.  One of my major bugbears was the fact that because I have a shower over the bath, I couldn't shower for 6 weeks (yuk) as with the restrictions I couldn't lift my leg up high enough to get into the bath.

So, I was wondering if there was such a thing as bath steps or something I could use to access the shower.

Any thoughts or suggestions gratefully received.

There is a bench that they sell at the medical supply stores half goes in the tub half goes outside the tub you could sit down and slide your butt over to the side that's in the tub and drag your leg over the side.... I bought one but wound up not using it. I just stayed at my parents and they have a walk in shower

      Hi Fergie

      Thanks for replying.

I have a large corner bath, so I doubt if this will work.  However, I'll investigate your idea.

google steps for hot tubs or Jacuzzis online. usually they are two steps with grips on them. Just a thought, I have walk in shower, but if I had a tub I would put steps outside of it, and a platform inside of it, so you don't have to step down into it.

Step into the bath, close to one end , with the good leg. Take the op. leg over the side like getting on a mans bike bike  therefore it is almost straight.Make sure you have a good non slip surface.

HI. If you are in uk ask social services for electric bath lift . I have one on loan and it's brilliant. Fits in bath , press a button and seat comes level with top of bath, when seated, press button and down you go.  If not in uk have a look at eBay, Amazon, Red Cross also have these for hire ar nominal cost. I was 4 weeks after surgery before I asked for one . Before that, it was a nightmare trying to was and I can't tell you how many packs of baby wipes I got through.

Please let me know how you get on and best wishes for op. X

      Hi Carol

      Yes I'm in the UK.

I saw the Occupational Therapist at my pre-op assessment and I have a raised toilet seat on loan but there was no offer of an electric bath lift.  When I said that I had a shower over the bath, I was advised not to attempt to get into the bath but to have a strip wash for 6 weeks.

I wonder if its one of those regional things, like whether or not you get physio after the op (and I don't in my area).

I think it's more that they just don't let you know what's available . Because I live alone, I was told I would have carers to help me wash and dress. I didn't want that so didn't bother when they still hadn't turned up after a month. I phone social services and told them I needed to bath and would like the electric bath lift. I had it delivered within a couple of days. I would try asking . X

Hi, I've only got a shower over a bath, and couldn't bear the thought of not being able to shower. I used a series of plastic steps, the sort kids use. (I borrowed them, but I think IKEA/Amazon would sell them.) I had 3 altogether, a low one, and a medium one outside the bath, and a low one in the bath to step onto. It worked fine, but I don't think it would be suitable if you're on your own. Good luck, Judith
