Looking for alternative medicine to HRT

Posted , 9 users are following.

I had a hysterectomy 6 weeks ago with the removal of both ovaries and have now hit the menopause head on. Whilst I am finding that I am able to deal with the hot flushes and night sweats, I am experiencing difficulty sleeping due to a reoccuring dream and depression due to some raging hormones. I have heard so many bad things about HRT that I am very relucant to try them and am looking for an alternative medicine to help with my hormonal inbalance. I have read about Macafem and wonder if anyone has tried them and if so what was their experiences. Or is there any other alternative treatments that you can recommend.

Yes, it's Estraderm MX 50 (or 100) however, in the UK I didn't find the Novartis one, I think the brand that distributed it was CIBA or something like that. Now, I don't know if for the UK they changed the formulation or what, the excipients a few years ago were a bit different than the Novartis' one and the active compound didn't work well for me. I remember I prefered the Novartis' Estraderm MX.

Why not try ladycare menopause magnet for a month BEFORE medication.its been great so far for me. I understand everyones different but its better than raking something in that doesn't work then having to get it out before trying something else

Hi I can relate to what you are saying about hrt, I have been on hrt for years, but a new doc has recently changed  the hrt for another type. I am wondering about alternative treatments as I feel I am gaining more weight than before and have a lot of bloat. I am wondering whether the Lady Care magnet would be a worth a try. I just have a few concerns, as with the actual hrt you are getting the hormones required for looking after your bones , keeping them strong,  But I am up for trying anything if they work. Did you find an alternative that worked for you?

Hi Amanda. Maca is great and so is VITEX- Agnus Castus. It takes time, up to 5-6 months to act. For some natural oestrogen: Black Cohosh should do. This one should be paused for 1 week or 2 a few times a year.

Since you do not have you varies anymore then the adrenals have to be doing extra work to pump some oestrogen in to the system so I would say that it might be good do have some DHEA, plus "adrenal support" supplements.  If  M. hits  you very badly then maybe your doctor could prescribe some bioidentical/prescription HRT. I'll send you a link. XX.

According to Victoria Hopkins that woked with the "father" of bio-identical HRT, Dr. John Lee:

"After a hysterectomy women not on HRT have twice the risk of dying from heart disease, brain disease and bone disease. It’s not just a lack of estrogen that creates the increased risk, it’s also lack of progesterone and testosterone. Hormones really do help! However, they help even more if they're natural hormones."

I am trying with agno casto and soy isoflavones because the current estrogen therapy wasn't ideal for me (weight gain, over emotional mood changes with cries). I don't know whether I will feel better or not, I guess I can only try.
