    Hi everyone,

Well this is a whole different experience than my first THP.

I've experienced a lot more pain which gets worse throughout the day as the swelling gets worse. The swelling is the worst on the hip and the ankle/foot.

I'm have a PT appointment on Monday morning. I'd love to get their opinion. I do all my exercises without too much trouble.

I've probably been extremely unrealistic in expecting a repeat of the first one but this has been difficult and disappointing. Don't I sound miserable! ???.

The redeeming part of this has been my wonderful husband. He has been fantastic and I have no idea what I'd do without him!

Anyway will try and keep you posted. I have a tenancy to retreat when things aren't going well.

    Thanks for checking on me!

    Hugs,

    Fiona

Hi Fiona - I am sorry if I was intrusive. Please forgive me - just wondering how you and others were doing and hoping all was well (part of the cuse and the joy of this forum I guess). But we also know how easy it is to get down along this rollercoaster journey. 🎢

And, as I am having my 2nd hip done shortly I was especially looking out for how you were doing.

I am so sorry it is not going well. I am very familiar with the impressive swelling of hip and ankle/foot from hip #1. I used to joke about my uni-thigh which seemed to spread in one massive block through to my other hip. It felt as if I need a crane to move!🚒 (best I could find, but you understand what I mean 😊

In case you missed it, a few people have recently posted touting the benefits of magnesium spray to reduce pain and swelling. I am still tracking it down in my area but online research also sounds promising.

Have you seen the Black and White Night Concert of Roy Orbison backed up by Bruce Springstein, Elvis Costello, k.d. Lang and a ton of talented musiciansby . It is a magical benefit concert in a club setting that will lift your spirits in a flash. Perhaps your husband or a fried could find it for you (or another from an artist that you love). The power of music and people doing what they love is so amazing.

Sure hope you feel 'more the thing' soon.

      Hugs,

      Linda

Hi Linda, I never felt you were being intrusive at all. I appreciate the concern. Anyway you got me moving. We just went for a short walk outside which would never have happened yesterday. It wasn't too bad.

Last time I had virtually no swelling so this was a bit of a shock! My PT told me to keep toe tapping or ankle pumping whenever possible.

I hadn't heard about magnesium spray but will be checking it out.

The music is a great idea. It does have a very healing relaxing effect. Will be trying that out!

Take care and I'll post again soon.

      Hugs,

      Fiona

Oh Fiona, I wish I could do something to help you!!!  I am so sorry hip #2 is not as smooth as thr #1!  Kind of sounds like the kid thing, when women have two kids and they say " the first was so easy, so I had #2 if I knew this one would have been so miserable I wuld have stuck with one".  I think it's God's way of teasing people if #1 was hard no one would go for #2, maybe it's the same way with hips smile  I will be interested as well to hear with PT has to say.  I am praying for you in hopes your turn the corner right away and the swelling goes down and pain is better.  I missed you, there are a few regaulars that are so dear and you are one of them, so now it's our turn to try to help you to the upside of the coaster.  I am a lot like you, when things are down I love to isolate.  Good to hear from you!

I got my magnesuim spray today!  LINDA I got it off Amazon, ordered it when you were talking about it earlier this week.

Hang in there Fiona, hugs to you!!  xox

      dear fiona,

      checking in with you ...

Ah, yeah ... they were right, weren't they - the ones who said do not compare the 2 surgeries .... of course we do anyway - it can go either way ...

my 2nd one was a different experience as well - I thought it was more painful right after surgery and was told by surgeon that I had probably forgotten how I felt after 1st THR ... I had no swelling this time and it might have been because i told surgeon to handle me with more care this time ... maybe he did ...

I also felt so much more confident and less afraid about dislocation

Already experienced and creative, things were a bit easier to do -

you are doing fine darling --

big warm hug for both you and your husband

      Hi Renee,

Well I can see my foot so far today! Hopefully that's a good sign. I think my hip isn't as swollen either. Didn't expect this as I had virtually no swelling round 1.

My fear wasn't dislocation, I was afraid I might have a fracture. I'm sure that's my paranoid side coming out! I can do all the exercises without much pain so I'm pretty sure it's just the muscles and tendons protesting!
