    Hi Eric

i had resurfacing 8 yrs ago on the right side - ( although it failed last year necessitating urgent revision to a total hip replacement - although that is more common in ladies of my age - 57 - than in younger men like yourself  ) - it does sound like you need some help for a week or two - my mum came to stay with me for a fortnight after mine. I got better quite quick after that eg i went camping/ rock climbing at 6 months post op - although everything is difficult at first after the op -  Depends on how your son is - some kids are very understanding at that age and can be helpful , others are less so -and still expect you to be as usual . If you can afford it id say takeaways , dvd,s etc will all make life easier - who will take your child to school ? Are/Is there an ex or grandparents / friends who can help you out ?

Thanks for your reply. My son will be very helpful, he is amazing. A neighbor will take my son to school (her son attends same school) & pick him up. She will also drop him at karate after school. His school/karate are both a block away . A few parents have offered to bring him hom after karate. Hopefully I can walk that far in a few weeks & incorporate it into my therapy. Weekends will be hard on my son until im mobile. I have very little support besides a few friends who offered to shop for me.

I've not had resurfacing Eric, but friends have really come through for me after my THR.  It's surprising, sometimes the people you most expect to be able to rely on aren't very helpful.  My neighbour though, who I didn't really know that well, has been taking me shopping every week, always pops in to make sure I'm okay, and put my TED stocking on for me for the first couple of weeks.

I've found there are those who say "Ring if you need anything", and those who turn up on the doorstep and say "Right, what can I do".  Two very different things.

Good luck with recovery.  I hope it goes smoothly.

      Cels x

    Hi Eric,

Warm welcome to this friendly forum -

How are you doing? Resurfacing has almost the same restrictions as a total hip replacement, I understand - so no bending, abide by the 90 degree rule, no lifting lifting, pivotting etc - Might be a challenge the first 6 weeks with your bundle of joy - Are you full weight bearing? Were you given exercises and maybe seeing a physical therapist now?

Good that you have at least some help from friends to take him to school and such -

Ask for help okay ? and come back here anytime you have a question or concern or just want to chat ..

    big warm hug

Hi , having had both ops - yes the restrictions are exactly the same - resurfacings a bit of a misnomer as you still have a new ball and cup - i actually found it harder post op after the resurfacing than follwing the two subsequent THR , s but that may have been cos it was the first surgery so new to me / felt more vulnerable
