Loperamide advice

Hey,

Just wondering how many loperamide a day IBS D sufferers take and how long it works for? Surely our bodies will get used to get it if we take it daily?? Xx

For instance today, I went numerous times this morning, planned to meet a friend at 11am so 10am I took one loperamide, it kept me comfortable for about 2hours then I get the feelings I need to start going again and can't wait to get home😞 Sooo fed up of this ruling my life and not letting me do 'normal' things!!

Any advice much appreciated!

Thanks

Heya. You can take up to 16 a day!( gi Dr told me) but you really only want to take enough to keep it at bay. Best thing to do is take two for the first dose then for the rest take one as and when needed.

Have you tried keeping a food diary to is triggers?

16! Wow my doc told me no more than 8 a day!?

      I am keeping a food

Diary and currently taking gluten, wheat, yeast and cows milk out of my diet! Eek! Haha! Xx

    Hi jo

I completely understand where you're coming from. I hardly ever leave the house without having taken at least one loperimide.

I take them nearly every day. Unless I know I'm going to be at home. I will take between 1-2 depending on how many bathroom visits I am making and how painful my tummy is. For me no matter how many I take, I still seem to go the next day. It just slows things for me.

I would love to never have to take them again, but my doctor has assured me it won't harm me. I do worry sometimes with how much I rely on them to help me function and actually get out my house. Without them I would have no life as I wouldn't ever trust my bowels enough. I don't really have any social life because of it.

    Xx

Hey, Awww I know it's so hard isn't it! I get myself in a right panic if I have to be out the house, I know this doesn't help! What I would do to not give my bowels a second thought, suppose

This is the vicious cycle we are in, but how to break it i have no idea!!

I am currently taking gluten, wheat, yeast and cows milk out of my diet to see if that helps! Goodness know what I'm supposed to eat!!

I have no social life either, I wake

Up every morning with a dread

On how the day is going to be, any tummy rumble I hear I panic is going to Result in me needing the loo! The constant feelings of needing the loo are driving me insane too😞

I get jealous when I see people out for a morning run or something, I think no way could I do that! My bowels wouldn't let me! 😞

Always here if you need to chat, we sound like we are going through very similar misery!!

      Thanks jo.

It really is such a debilitating thing to suffer from. I find I get very depressed. If I'm ever invited anywhere, I can't just say yes and go. I have to think it over, tell them I'll see how I am etc. I have lost so many friends because of it. People don't understand. They think you're just being miserable.

I hope your day has been ok. X
