Lorazepam alternatives

Posted , 7 users are following.

Lorazepam 1mg works really well for my anxiety, (like nothing else in fact) but I'm aware it can be addictive long-term.

I only take it when under serious stress but I'm currently going through a very stressful period and need something to control my thinking and anxiety.

Has anyone found a non-benzo alternative that works as well?

Hopefully you have!

Simple answer to that David? NO! GP's will tell you antidepressants work on anxiety? NO! Be very careful David, over 20 years ago I was put on DIAZEPAM! And in my ignorance, no blood tests, withdrawal program, we moved back to my birth place of North Wales I was told by what I can only describe as a right B***H of a doctor your going on a reduction program, and I'm starting you now! She took away 3mg!!!!!!!  1mg is suicide! 3 years down the road? I'm deemed and called an addict! I'm living 24hrs a day with permanent withdrawal symptoms! Black outs, fits, but they refuse to up the dose back to the 15mg a day.

Hi Frederick - very sorry to hear about your experiences. Surely they should have put you on a proper tapered programme to reduce the dose gradually. I'd be making a complaint. I only take lorazepam when it's a stressful day or occasion - first started taking them a couple of months ago and they usually work well. In a typical week I'd say no more than 5mg and aiming to reduce once I get back into a work routine.

David? I was for 3 years on a gradual reduction program! But? Some people ( me) are permanently addicted, an addict, the brain won't re-wire itself, hence the fits, blackouts, i'v got a friend, I was best man at their wedding, and she works for our local hospital! As a legal eagle, she said forget suing, she deals with loads of suings over Diazepam. S**t system, they create a addict then blame the addict.

Therapy does not work for everybody unfortunately.  You are one of the lucky ones
