Lorazepam and dentist.

This might be the wrong place, but here goes. I have been prescribed Lorazapam for 'dentist and flight.' I usually take 1/2 mg before dentist visits to stop retching with nerves etc, but a friend commented that it could react with the numbing injection and cause my heart to race etc and might be too much of a strain. I've taken them before but being an anxious person, wonder if he's having me on or is genuine? I'm 72 with no heart problems that I know about.

Hi I don't know where your friends got his information from but I beg to differ, lorazepam has contta reactions to local anaesthetics and it is a well tolerated drug given for many stressful situations, dentist, flying as you say.

They wouldn't prescribe it for you if it wasn't safe, it's actually given to heart patients so must be good, tell him to get his facts straight 🤣

Apart from what AG said your dentist will ask you what meds you are on and s/he will know whether it is safe for having your teeth seen to. x

Thanks both. I'll check with my dentist to make sure he is up to date with my medications. Three types of blood pressure tablets and aspirin. ?B12  and testosterone (getting old) injections as well. I hardly ever take Lorazapam, every six months or so. Thanks again.
