Advice from experiences with lorazepam (Ativan) please
I have been using lorazepam for a while now. It was given to me after i had a week of having panic attacks a few times a day and at night. I was still against the sertraline until things got REAL bad on 13th August. So I started the sertraline the next day and have continued to take the lorazepam. This is my use so far. Can I just stop? The reason I take it so frequently now is because I’m beyond terrified of reliving the events of 13th Aug 🙈 any advice greatly appreciated. My doctor says I can just stop and wouldn’t become physically addicted unless I took 1mg x 4 a day for 2 weeks! But they really haven’t a clue. so my questions are:
Can I just stop?
How can I taper as doctor won’t give more?
Should I ask for longer acting like diazepam?

my doctor informs me that i will only become physically addicted if i take 1mg x 4 a day for 2 weeks but this i find hard to believe as many suffer. I have been taking it as a preventative due to me starting sertraline after i tried to end my life. i had panic attacks for the first 4-5 days on 12.5mg sertraline so started taking the lorazepam to stop things escalating to the severity of 13th August. the past two days i have only taken the lorazepam as i am scared to just stop now so i feel im in a pickle 😦
NOTES
doctor wont give more so cant taper well
i have a severe phobia of dry heaving gagging choking vomiting
thank you for reading this far

I just recently went to detox for valium. DO NOT just quit cold turkey. you may be one that can, but I would be remiss if I did not warn you to wean off slowly. your doctor should know this and should not have told you to just stop. you haven't been on for that long, but your body can still become physically dependant. I don't want to scare you, but quitting cold turkey can cause the original problem to come back worse than before. now, I was on valium for 8 months. quite a bit per day. I'm still going through withdrawals and I tapered off with last day being June 28. please do some research and talk to your doctor again about weaning down slowly. cold turkey can cause seizures, bad withdrawals. I think anyone else in this forum would agree. Look up the Ashton manual. Dr Ashton wrote this yrs ago about benzo withdrawal. please take care of yourself and I will be praying for you. good luck sweetie, please do some research on line.

glad to hear you have managed to get off valium. i have been on five years. 5mg at night and 2 x2 in day. i am wanting to try to detox slowly, and i wonder if anyone has done this. dr is very unhelpful but i feel i would be better off it in time. i have already stopped anti depressants a year or more ago.
