losartan problems

Hi was originally on 2mg candersartan and moved doctors and when my blood pressure was checked it was high 146 over 110 which is the highest ive seen it so been put on 50mg losartan and ive been getting bad headaches is this a side affect am back seeing the nurse next week and i intend to mention this and see if they can change my medication

    I changed from Ramapril to Losartan (100mg) a few weeks ago and all of the problems I was having cleared within a week. I never had headaches and the only negative effect thus far is fatigue - although that could be result on my Ramapril problems. Can only speak highly of Losartan so far.

    I have been on Losartan 50mg for the past 6 weeks and the only side effect I've had is a red left eye. It weeps constantly and research shows that it's due to the potassium in the medication. Anybody else had this ? I'm seeing the doctor next week to see what they cn do about it.

    I've been on Losartan 50mg for nearly 2 months and haven't experienced any head pain.  However, it has caused raised Creatinine and, although I've been generally better on Losartan than any other BP medication to date, I am experiencing a bowel problem but the pharmacist thinks this could be caused by either the other BP med I have to take (Diltiazem which causes swollen ankles) or by a combination of the two.  I am seeing my consultant next week following blood tests so hope to learn more and at least come off the Diltiazem.

    Although others haven't experienced head pain, it doesn't mean to say that it isn't possible as we can all differ in our response to medication.  My pharmacist has told me that of all the BP medications, Losartan is the one his customers complain least about.  Could your head pain either be caused by something else or even caused by your high BP which may not be under control yet.  Sometimes the pills can take a couple of weeks to work.

      Hi have only bee  in losartan for 2 weeks on tues and im seeing the nurse to see if there working and maybe the headaches could be down to blood pressure

      Hi had my b/p checked and because i hadnt taken a pill that morning it was a high reading so the nurse said i needed to see the doctor as only them can change medication am now on felodipine 2-5 mg

    Hi latest update still suffering with headaches so went to the chemist were i get my prescription and spoke to the pharmacist and he said headaches on losartan are a side effect he told me i need to tell my nurse/doctor when i see them anyway the assistant offered to check my b/p and it was a lot better than it was it had dropped to 137 over 88 and the assistant said the bottom reading could be better

      I'm so glad the pharmacist has been able to reassure you - I always prefer to ask them for advice rather than a GP when it comes to medicines.  Excellent news about your BP too - your Diastolic (bottom figure) was much higher initially so has a bit further to drop which might take a bit longer.  Good luck for the next reading next week.

    Hi have been took of felodipine due to headaches have been put back on candersartan which i was originally on only they have doubled the dose to 4mg when i was on 2mg i didnt have any side affects so fingers crossed
