Lose a "slight" bit of near vision. What is slight?

Had traditional cataract surgery Sept 2016. Left eye post op was amazing. Color and clarity like nobody's business!

Right eye post op, my vision has never been worse. While I dont know my numbers right off hand, I've always been nearsighted. Only reason I saw the eye doc was on account of blurry vision and I wanted to make sure there wasn't serious trouble. Doctor said my cataracts were very slight and could easily get by for several years w/o surgery. He followed that by saying there wasn't any reason to wait until they got bad. He'd asked me how I'd like to have perfect vision without glasses to which I answered of course, but it didnt really matter as I've worn glasses from age 4.

This is where he told me that he'd take away a "slight" bit of near, thus increasing the far. He went on to explain that I'd probably need readers for close up tasks.

So far, I've washed my hair with the dogs shampoo, brushed my teeth with diaper rash cream, and taken the Rx I have for sleep in the morning. (With the latter, it wasn't carelessness but rather jumping letters).

I can drive without my glasses which is kind of cool, until dark. So blinded by lights I don't dare drive.

Prior to surgery, I'd never seen floaty things or had something I can only explain as sheer curtains that linger after I blink. While reading, letters appear to shift. Some of the fluid from the back of my eye is seeping over to the front, so that's one of the floating. While all of this I'm told is normal-and no doubt it's true-its hard to believe there is no correlation between the onset and the surgery.

My cataract surgery was traditional and done with the scalpel. I didn't think it was possible to make laser precision correction without a laser so why didnt he just remove the cataracts?

Any opinions? Thank you!

I have a lot of floaters after my cataract surgery also.   I couldn't see out of my right eye at all after the surgery, I think they implanted the wrong prescription in my right eye, I had to have a piggy back lens inserted the prescription was so far off.  The left eye was supposed to be for close vision, it did not come out that way, vision is not good for reading or distance in the left eye.  Very disappointed in the cataract surgery I had done.

it is a shame that your vision has not turned out to be good as one would expect.

There can be many reasons for your bad vision. The best way to deal with these is to try to better understand them and then take the corrective measures.

Rather than trying to guess the reasons, you should really see a good opthamologist to find out the reason for the fluid leaking over the front (if that is really happening). Is it because the scalpel made the cut in the posterior capsule also when taking out the natural lens (it is not supposed to happen)? Does your posterior capsule have any film on it? What is your uncorrected vision in each eye and what is your corrected vision in each eye (and the spherical and cylinderical correction needed to achieve that)? Finally, what does he/she suggest to correct the issues?

If you can share the answers to those questions, people on this site may be help you better by providing their more focused insights.

Hi Janet, Reading your letter is heartbreaking, you rely so much on Doctors, when it comes to surgery everyone is different ie everyone has different reaction to the op, I am hoping you will get some kind of advice from eye specialists even if its not from the one who did the op, not being able to drive at night is hopeless plus all the other symptoms that you are having, I will be watching to see if anyone has advice for you, im sorry I just wouldnt know where to begin, please keep us up to date with whats happening to you,

    Regards Agnes

I agree with at201 anything like curtains drawing over your vision needs to be checked by a retinal specialist
