Approximaely when I was about 4 months pregnant I suffered with cramp and bleeding . I rushed to the hospital and was told everything was fine .

6 weeks later during a routine scan the nurse left the room and another doctor was brought in who further examined the scan .

It was later explained to me what there concerns were and that I could continue or terminate. I said neither and dsemanded a second opinion and was referred to Kings College Hospital, London , who alos informed me there was nothing he could do .

I later terminated which was the worse day of my life , I gave birth to my son on June 26th 1992 and the pain still lives with me probaly because there was no after care and the care assitants treated me terribly assuming I had terminated a healthy baby at so late in pregnancy.

After giving birth I was placed in a ward filled with new mothers and their new born babies. And being a single mother , did not help.

No one ever explained what potters sydrome was and I was too afraid to check it myself until now because I thought I was the reason why my son died.

It has taken me until now to read up on it and I am so glad I did , If anyone reading this is in the position I was in get counselling and support

    Your not alone

We had a baby with potters syndrome 15 years ago. We did not know until a week after he was born that he would die. He lived 5 weeks and six days and we will never forget him. We had a healthy daughter only two years afterwards which is great but nothing will ever replace the loss of our son. We have just learned to live with it. Good luck to everyone who is facing this. Like me you probably want answers but there doesn't seem any definite reasons for this to happen. x
