Losing confidence in my surgeon

I am in the US where we usually get to choose our doctors. When I had my accident, my surgeon of choice was leaving for vacation. That was July 13. A trauma Ortho surgeon from his group did an ORIF a week later.

Soon it will be 4 months since surgery. I can hold myself up on my feet. I walk short distances with a major limp. My foot does not move "up". The more I stretch it, the more the Achilles area hurts.

Last x-ray showed that one of the screws went all the way through the tibia and there are 2 full threads in the space between tibia and fibula. Bones had healed.

Next visit we will be discussing hardware removal. Has anyone had plates and screws removed at less than 6 months? It is really hard to get a second opinion after one surgeon as started. I know it is hard to get range of motion back but I have worked on it and in that one direction it seems like a dead end.

Does it seem likely that the screw going all the way through would cause this lack of motion?
