Losing the Will.

So, I've been up all night drinking and now wondering how on earth I'm going to get through this day. My plans to go to my Gp requesting Nalmefene were abolished when I received an app with alcohol services next week. Thanks for your kind help Joanna, although I still feel very stuck and lost!! Any advice on how I can move things forward quickly at my app next week would be gratefully received, I need to do something quickly to reduce my intake.

I don't think anyone can tell you right now how to decrease your intake because you are in the cycle of alcoholism and no matter what anyone says...you will drink to the level of comfort for you....I would try and cut down...but even when I tried that i couldn't cut down.
I hope you get the help that you need at this next appt.

C Three Europe NHS Nalmefene Resources
the first result should be the article I recently wrote about the situation with the NHS and getting an assessment about this medication. The title of the article is NHS Information and Resource Service for Nalmefene.
It's worth a read for sure, as it explains what barriers/hurdles you may face at the appointment and how to overcome them. Such basics as the fact that although it is commonly known as The Sinclair Method, it isn't officially called that as far as the NHS is concerned, so don't go to your appointment and ask for The Sinclair Method as they will likely look at you blankly....
Let me know if you need anything else in the way or information....

Tapering is a lovely idea, but if we say drink six pints a day and attempt to knock it down to four, by the time we have had two pints, we have got that nice feeling and good intentions go out of the window. I know you drink vodka not pints, but the analogy is the same.
It is good that you have got an appointment next week, but steel yourself up for a bit of a challenge, be prepared and it sounds like Joanna has pointed out to you the difficulties you might face and how to try to over come them.

I doubt you will have got anything resolved with regard to withdrawal before Tuesday because, even with medication, it takes longer than that. RHGB was correct in saying that you will need a detox using Librium or Diazepam. These are not easy to get on the NHS, which is a scandal because they are necessary. Very few people can taper down. What tends to happen is that they start off with good intentions but the body doesn't allow that to continue and they end up doing a couple of days and then finding themselves having a bad day when everything goes back to the same as before, or worse.
Don't be tempted to go cold turkey as this can be extremely dangerous.
With alcohol detox, you stop drinking and take medication to counteract the withdrawal symptoms. It is normally very comfortable and, if you get sufficient dosage, almost all withdrawal symptoms should be eliminated.
Because it has taken me four days to see this post, you may have found a way to get treatment, Vodka07. My apologies again for seeing it so late.

I have done Personal Detox at home, in the past. I had Librium a couple of times. I have Valium/Diazepam just now, for anxiety problems. Although I don't seem to get Withdrawal Symptoms other than Craving Alcohol, trying for an alcohol-free day is Hell for me. All I think is DRINK !
This battle is some challenge, Vodka07. We are all in it, in or own ways. We all want to win it ! I hope you find your way, quickly.
Good Luck at your appointment.
