Losing the will to live!

I am a primary teacher & realised I had threadworms on Saturday, I took ovex straight away & did a full clean, I hadn't noticed a difference Sunday so took another tablet. It has definitely reduced & the pain on a night is disappearing, however I checked todsy after going to the toilet & most are dead but there are still some live ones & slightly itchy sensation at night. I know I probably shouldn't have but I've taken another tablet as I need them gone. I'm doing daily washes of towels & hsve hand sanitizer on my hands as often as possible. Can anyone else me how long they usually take to all die off. I know I need to take another dose about two weeks later but they're are really getting me down. Thanks.

I wouldn't take too many of those tablets as they are not good for your health. The best way to get rid is by eating a healthy diet. Cutting out sugar, eating alkaline food, lots of garlic and black walnut oil. Good luck!

Hi, hang in there! iv been infected with these buggers for almost a year. i just started having relief after my doctor prescribed me albendazole. please see a doctor!

My doctor won't prescribe albendazole as she says it is not available in the uk so she's not licensed to prescribe it.  Did you go to a specialist?  How much do you take?    Thanks

The medication works by stopping the worms absorbing glucose which is what they live on so they don't due straight away.  If you read all the posts on this subhect you will see that some of us have been struggling with this problem for months and even years but hopefully you will be one of the lucky 90 percent for whom the medication works.  I wish you luck.

Hi, My daughter had this years ago and we couldn't get rid of them. I turned to natural herbal remedies and they did the trick and they never came back. I gave her Nelsons Sepia 30c.  Hope you can get rid of them they are not nice.

We (2 adults, 3 kids) went through this last Oct. After being perscribed $100 a dose meds from the Dr I went to walgreens and got resses pinworm medicine instead. 1 dose for each family member and then 1 more dose 2 weeks later did the trick. The reason for the second dose is to kill any adolescent worms as the meds (at least the ones we took) dont work on juvenile worms. My son was the only one with symptoms but we were all treated just incase.  In his case the itching went away within a few days.  I dont recommend the  super strict cleaning many people suggest but I do recommend changing underclothes and washing them and the bed sheets every day in hot water during the treament and then every 3-7 days after until you're sure they are gone. Cutting out sugary foods is also a great idea. Make sure to wipe commonly used surfaces, remotes, faucets, keys, doors, handles, steering wheels, etc.  Basically anything you touch,  WIPE IT DOWN and often. Avoid stiring up dust in your home if you can.  Also building a good gut flora community will also help fight them off and prevent re infections.  Make sure to get your showers (not baths) in the AM and make sure everyone rinses off their bottom around the anus to remove eggs deposited overnight. Make sure EVERYONE washes their hands after using the restroom.  It's unfortunate for this issue that you're a teacher.  It will be extremely difficult to fight them off if a child in your class continously brings them into and spreads them around your classroom.  Keep an eye out for kids scratching at their bum and notify parents.  IMO any school with a child that tests positive for pinworms should be required to notify all parents especially parents with children in teh same class as the infection.  Also, hand sanitizer wont do anything but spread the eggs around on your hands.  You need to wash with soap and water.  Pinworm eggs are extremly hardy which is why cleaning has very little effect outside of picking up w/e eggs you manage to catch in your rags.  Open all your blinds and let the sun in.  Sun light can lower the amount of time the eggs remain viable. This combined with warmer temperatures can help a great deal.

It's easy to let something like this get you down but just know you're not alone. Millions upon millions upon millions something like 400,000,000 (the reason I believe they are not curedyet) people are out there suffering with you but it is treatable and can be beatin.  Lowering your risk of reinfection is the key.  Don't let all the forums get you down people are far more likely to come to the internet to report an issue than they are to report that they don't have one. There are a lot of horror stories out there, I encourage you to not read them they will only worry you and make you feel worse.  Though the worms make you feel gross the worst side effect is the toll it takes on your mind.  Although they are a nuisance they aren't harmful in most cases.

Keep your head up it will be ok.
