losing weight

A relative aged 81 has lost over two stone although eating well. He passes a motion 5/6 times daily not loose and has no pain. Also gets night wind which goes when he sits up and burps. Has had many tests at hospital and nothing found. He is still continuing to lose weight. Any ideas.

It might be IBS and indigestion. Is there constipation? Was abdominal ultrasound done? And what is the consistency of the stool?

Passing stools five to six times daily sounds like IBS D where you can pass loose, urgent stools many times or have diarrhoea.  However, pain goes with it and you don't loose weight unless you are off your food or the frequent motions cause you to lose nutrients.  Has celiac been ruled out and bile acid malabsorption  which can be picked up via a SEHCAT scan?  Bile acid malabsorption causes diarrhoea.
