Loss of appetite after THR?

Posted , 14 users are following.

Ive been busy preparing for THR due in just over 2 weeks time.

Freezer full and can hardly get another item in cupboards.

Then I've read that complete lack of appetite after surgery is quite common and only very small high protein snacks are needed!

As I live alone, I'm trying to cover most problems that may occur.

Have many of you experienced this and any help and advice gratefully received. Thanks.x

My appetite wasn't affected at all! The first few days I wasn't really bothered with much but then I was eating normally!

I have been surprised by my lack of appetite sometimes.  I have always "lived to eat" rather than eaten to live--- not much pickiness ever in my life.  You are smart to have planned and prepared ahead-- you will still need to eat even if you are feeling apathetic at that moment.  I have discovered peanut butter and jelly sandwiches again ( guess that gives away my nationality!)  also deviled eggs (stuffed eggs?? maybe you would call them)  .  I live alone and learned how to ask for help.  I also learned to pace myself.  If I went to church, I probably would not go for too much more activity--- that surprised me as I am a librarian in a high school and I'm used to going full out all day.  I'm not back to work yet, which has made me feel at loose ends.

If you have a bath tub, borrow or buy a tub bench.  I still use it 4 months later and am very glad to have it.

Have a successful THR and rest, rest, rest.

    Hi Carol,

I had a loss of appetite after my FHR.  I think this is very common.  It's good that you've stocked up on groceries though, especially as you live by yourself.  It may be a few weeks before you feel like going out shopping again.

    Best wishes!
