Loss of smell during and after two pregnancies - second time it has not returned

I'd love some help from this forum!  We have two children, a boy nearly four and a girl who's 9 months.  During my wife's first pregnancy she lost her smell.  It returned to her a few months after he was born.  When she was pregnant again, three years later, she lost her smell again (at first a little bit but by month 7 it was totally gone).  Her smell has not returned and our daughter is 9 months old.  She had no problem with her smell whatsoever between pregnancies.  Does anyone have any clues or ideas?  She has done all of the nasal and oral steroid options and has just been referred for CT and MRI scans by ENT specialist. She's had an endoscopy and it did not show any significant swelling in nasal passage.  It's totally bizarre - we'd love a shred of hope from somewhere.  We love food and her not being able to taste is really sad for her! 

Some further comments:

- She doesn't have nasal dripping. 

- Our son has fairly severe allergies but my wife doesn't have any that we know of.

- She got a bang on the nose during the second pregnancy from our son throwing his head back into her nose.  There was quite bad bleeding.  We don't know whether or not that coincided with the loss of smell.  We think not.
