Lotion around incision

Posted , 7 users are following.

My staples were taken out on day 9 . I am now almost 4 weeks post op. I have some dry dead skin around lateral part of knee. The part that has lost its feeling. Which I was warned of. Do you think it's too early to moisturize around incision site? Or massage to loosen scar tissue?

My physical therapist started scar massage at 2 weeks (and insturcted me to do it at home as well) but told me that I was absolutely not to put any lotions, creams or anything else on the incision until it was completely healed. I did use lotion on dry areas away from the incision but was very careful to follow the direction to keep it away from any open areas.

    Hi Angel

I am now 5 weeks post op and after I had my staples taken out( at 2 weeks)my skin was very dry too so I rang my local chemist and asked them what I could clean and moisturise my knee with. They said that Cetraben was very good and said to ask my gp for it on prescription because it is quite expensive. The gp wrote me a prescription and I got a big bottle (free because I don't have to pay for the prescription). All I do now is wash it with anti bacterial liquid then put on the cream and it really has made a difference and my skin is really good I am glad that I got it. My leg on the side of my outer knee is also dead but I think it will get better in time. Good Luck.

I am a nurse on a rehab floor and our hip and knee patients have their staples taken out between 12-14 days, and we send them home with instructions to wait a week, them start massaging vitamin E cream into the incision and surrounding skin twice a day to help break down scar tissue and soften the skin.

      Hi Angel

Hope your making a good recovery with each passing day.

I've yet to have my tkr.

I love Bio Oil. But the wound must be fully dried up after staples removed.
