Loved one in ICU due to a lumbar spinal tear after microdiscectomy gone wrong

**My father had a microdiscectomy on the 3rd of November, a week ago tomorrow. He is now in ICU because of a dural tear/puncture. He lost spinal fluid for 5 days before he had another surgery to fix the tear, done with a blood patch. He has suffered severe hysterical episodes. Thinks things are happening that aren’t. Can’t answer basic questions like where he is. What is casing this hysteria?!? We are so worried that there will be long term effects. Can a large loss of spinal fluid cause some type of brain damage? Please if anyone has insight into this please respond 🙏😔😔
