Lovely surprise watching Doc Martin when Ruth gets Poly/GC

This was just a fun surprise.  In the states we love to watch Doc Martin and are at the mercy of public television as to what episodes they show or repeat. This past week Doc Martin's diagnoses his aunt Ruth with Poly/GC and I found it very refreshing to see in a TV show!  A previous episode had a waiter who had it but this time Doc even did a biopsy on her neck artery! I LOVE that show.  Then I saw that the PMR charity had done a writeup praising the episode.  I don't know if you all already discussed this or if I can post the link but I found it very interesting:

Always nice to get publicity on this rotten disease!

Ahhh, I agree but in defense of the character (Doc Martin's aunt) she does tend to ignore her illnesses and deflect concern.  Part of the way they portray her.  I do agree, it glosses over everything we go through. THAT is annoying.  I have to sometimes post on Facebook to my friends the hidden aspect of illnesses - Spoon Theory ("but you don't look sick"), stuff like that. Even then, I suspect unless you have it - most folks have no idea what the person is dealing with. Goes for fibromyalgia, head injuries, RA, so so much more. Even losing a loved one...until you've been there it is hard to walk in someone else's shoes - tho we do try to be empathetic.  Also, sometimes I do wish I had a doctor like that who did house calls and in-his-office surgery (well not a GCA biopsy tho!).  My grandfather did and we still have his black bag from the 1940's.
