Low blood count

Hi all I am male 66 and have been told that my blood counts are low I have been given Frolic acid pills to take but have also been referred to the Haematology clinic. Now very worried that I may have some form of cancer anyone out there had any similar experience my GP was not very reassuring

    Blood counts being low is not very specific.Did they tell you what exactly is low?Low RBC and hemoglobin are due to anemia,low WBC can be due to infection and inflammatory process.There are many reasons for low blood count.

      I know my iron was low and they have put me on folic acid pills I am at the blood clinic on Tuesday so hopefully will get more information

      Low iron can be accompanied with low red cells,hemoglobin and hematocrit and is very typical for anemia.The folate should resolve it in some time.
