Low heart rate while on Apixaban

Hi all,

I was diagnosed with PE about a month ago and have improved massively since starting on Apixaban. However I got a Fitbit last week to track my physical improvement and it's highlighted a new potential problem.

My heart rate is pretty low. My resting heart rate is 52ish although it dips to 46. I am reasonably active and walk 2/3 times a day...but I am in no way a physically optimum human being. I can't find any link to low hear rate and Apixaban but I just want to check this is normal and/or nothing to worry about?

Thanks!

Hi mate - nothing i've heard of before! i also have a fitbit and my resting is usually 63 sometimes a bit lower 58 ish - i've been on riveroxiban for 3 weeks now and feel virtually fixed after my second batch of PEs within 10 months! - i'm staying on it forever now - so hope theres no adverse effects - if your worried see your doctor.

Thanks! Yeah I kept it on last night and my heart rate dropped to 42. I will get it checked I think just for peace of mind.

    Really pleased that you're improving.

I've been using a heart rate wrist monitor for three weeks now and getting used to the stats. I've just moved from rivaroxaban to Apixiban and it doesn't seem to have made much difference to my heart rate.

    Mine's about 60 when I'm resting. 70 once I've eaten. 110 when I'm walking. 140 when I'm cycling and 165 when I'm running.

It spikes at odd times when I walk and sometimes when I'm sitting it drops to mid 50's.

My wife has measured hers a couple of times, she's on no meds and her resting rate is usually below 50 and has been as low as 43. She does a lot of exercise and seems healthy.

It might be worth having it checked but I think it's mostly about how you feel. If you have dizzy spells or feel unwell get checked. If you feel ok it might be worth just keeping an eye on it
