Low Libido Male 50

Hi all

I've been suffering very low libido and erection problems for the past three years.

I've been taking medication for various problems like high blood pressure, cholesterol, gout, depression and stomach acid (Lansoprazole 15mg, Allopurinol 300mg, Atorvastatin 20mg, bisoprolol 5mg and excitalopram 20mg) for the past 10 years or so.

I went to the Doctor three years ago with the libido and erection problems and was given a blood test for testosterone levels, which turned out low (not sure how low) and was given a gel to use at first, then I had monthly testosterone injections, neither of which had any effect on the problem.

The last time I visited the Doctors (approx two years ago) it seemed like he'd given up and I left it at that.

It's still a problem and is definitely affecting my relationship. She says she's fine with it, but I can't help but think this surely can't be the end of my sex life.

I do have urges in the head, but they just don't find there way to the lower deck :-)

I'm now stuck as to what to do?

Andy advice would be most appreciated, especially from anyone who has experienced similar.

Many Thanks

Andy

Have you already tried any of the ED drugs?  There are plenty of 50-year-old men using them, and Viagra is now available a lot cheaper as generic sildenafil so I'd definitely see your doctor again.  If he hasn't heard from you, he may not be aware there's still an issue.  Escitalopram is a SSRI drug btw, so could well be the main cause of decreased libido.

Don't try any of the ED drugs without talking to your doctor, as it may be dangerous in combination with some of the other drugs you're taking, especially Bisoprolol.

I would suggest that you see your doctor and have your Testosterone level checked again . Fixing your Low testosterone could solve some of the issues you are experiencing . The monthly shot you were taking might have been too low of a dosage . I have been on T treatment for several years and I found that taking it on a consistent basis keeps my libido good shape .. Good luck Andy

I am a pharmacist who specializes in hormone theray.

    1. Low T needs to be addressed and if using testosterone you should have estrogen checked too

    2. BLood pressure medicines can cause ED

    3. Most antidepressants can lower libido and cause difficulty reaching climax. I usually recommend Bupropion which may actually enhance the above

    4. Besides viagra, cialis, etc. there are injectable meds that definitely help ED
