low mood, will i feel happy again?

Hi if been on sertraline for about 5 weeks now but just increased the dose this week which has helped the anxiety but I still feel depressed. I'm worried that I will never feel content and happy again. Nothing is making it better, I'm trying to be positive but I just feel very low.

I don't know if I'm unhappy because my life is making me that way or if it's the tablets

Thanks

I know how you feel, I've been on upped dose 75 for 10 days, anxiety gone but mood is no better, I'm feeling so tired and yet I still can't sleep, awake every night at 4am then just dose til alarm at 7. Thinking of dropping back to 50.

    Hi there

I found the same.  I increased to 100mg and my anxiety seems to be improving but my mood is still very up and down and very emotional at times.  Ive been told by the mental health nurse that this is normal, it helps the anxiety first then the moods take a bit longer.  I;ve only been on the increased dose for 2 weeks so im hoping its still too early to expect to be perfect.

    Hi Liz,

I've learnt not to force my mood, whatever those around me say. If we could make ourselves feel better just by willpower, we would, but we can't. We can choose to tackle things on our to-do list or contact a friend or go for a walk, all of which could lift our mood. It's the lack of energy that is the worst thing. Do you have a friend or family member to go out with, even if it's just to the shops or local park? You will be happy again because life has such joys and wonders in it. It has just lost its sparkle at the moment, but you will see with new eyes again soon. Are there any problems in your life that may need addressing? Perhaps counselling could help with this. Therapy is helping me to tackle things in my life that I've been putting off and avoiding for years but which have probably added to my depression. It's been extremely hard but I've broken the tasks down into smaller, achievable goals and so I can chip away at it gradually.

Don't give up hope. Be strong and you will get to where you want to be.

Good luck! Keep in touch. Digsby x

Hello, I agree its difficult to distinguish between the effects of the drug and with whats happening in my life.  However, I do think its the drug as they are powerful.  I am on week 5 now this week.  I do feel better, am calmer in some ways.  Sleep was a big problem for me for the last couple of years and even that is slowly improving, but it is very very slow.  I am sticking with it and hopefully I will be better as soon as possible.  I am on 50mg and reviewing next week which I am unsure about but will wait to see the doctor.  All the best.
