Low Pred. or No Pred. ??

Hi,  It is now over two and a half years since my PMR diagnosis and starting  the usual Pred. regime. I am now quite well on 3.0mg. and wondering as follows:

Is there any evidence that staying on a very dose (eg. 2.5mg.), as opposed to reducing slowly (if possible) to zero, would actually be better?  In other words, could a very low " maintenance" dose stave off a recurrence? Maybe this is a daft question, sorry if it is.  Just thinking . . . . J

    Hi Juno,

I think others will agree with me when I say once you have suffered PMR it never goes away, it lurks in your body somewhere, and wether you are on a high/low dose, it strikes when you least expect it, Max.

Well, flydog, we'll (PMR & me)  just have to circle each other - watching-, and with any hint of weakness I'll leap into action -  and get my retaliation in first!!  How's that for a plan??

Seriously, I guess you're right. At the start of all this, my Rheummy spoke as though this was a two-year phenomena but that's not what I gather from reading other patient's experiences. Eileen mentioned  a 5-year reoccurence - but that's not so bad really. It's just that my bones  could do without the Pred.  Kind regards,  J
