Low resting heart rate

I'm a 59 year old male and suffered a mild heart attack in December 2016. My resting heart rate seems to be on a downward trend, is this because of my increase in exercise (walking & circuit training) and just getting fitter? (though I could hardly be described as an athlete).
As I understand it a ‘normal’ heart rate is somewhere from mid 50’s to lower 60’s but I am on beta blockers for hypertension which will suppress my heart rate. I feel fine so not worried by this decline but wondered how low would be considered cause for concern?

I've been taking the beta blocker, atenolol for some 20+ years and my heart rate is usually between 50 and 60 with no ill effects.

Well you better get your doctor's opinion.

They put me on low dose Bisoprolol for a few months last year, found to be allergic as I was found barely conscious, the nurse at work couldn't detect a pulse, she gave me oxygen which brought me around, but even after the oxygen, the ambulance crew found my pulse to only be 42, so they took me to hospital.
Maybe you have a similar intolerance to Beta blockers which is bringing your heart rate down too low? How long have you been on them?, I was on half minimum dose for about ten weeks.

No I don't have an intolerance. The effect on my heart, 50 to 60 beats per minute, is perfect for me. I have no side effects. Very comfortable. I have never had a heart attack. I started taking it 20 to 30 years ago for HBP. You should discuss your concerns with your doctor.

I've been on Bisoprolol 5mg since June 2015 with no ill effects, my heart rate has typically been in the 50's since and only recently start dropping into the 40's. More recently I have started exercising more (walking/jogging/circuit training) and wonder if this is causing the drop.
I feel fine.
