Low testosterone

Hi again,

My routine follow up tests post tumour removal have flagged up an issue for the first time.

it seems my testosterone levels are low and testogel has been prescribed as a result.

I have read some conflicting reports about it and its impact. Does anyone on here have any knowledge of it?

After damage to his pituitary gland by radium therapy, and dr finally discovering majorly reduced testosterone, my husband eventually moved on to 3 monthly injections from the daily gel routine.  Both the gel and injections did make a noticeable difference.  Don't forget it is necessary for brain power, muscles, bone strength and reduced depression as well.

I had my pituitary tumour removed in 2013, and although I didn't recognise the sign's I had low testosterone for quite a while. Once the tumour had been removed, it was diagnosed I made pretty much zero testosterone. I started out on testogel, but further blood tests revealed I needed more than one sachet, so was prescribed Tostran, same gel, but in a pump dispenser so that I could measure the dose. That worked well for about a year except gradually it made my skin really irritated, plus it is a bit inconvenient as you have to keep away from your wife to avoid skin contact and Testo transfer. To be honest I did like the gel as I found it gave me a very even dose, but the irritated skin issue meant I changed to an injection.

For the last year or so, I have had a Nebido injection every 10 weeks. This also works well, although you get a high dose intially which ebbs away as the body uses up the dose, but it is very convenient and avoids for me the skin irritation issue.

As Sheryl says, the benefits for me have been great, especially brain power, muscles (I'd got very thin) and general mental well-being. My outlook on life is vastly improved now.

So, tinker with your dose if needs be, and enjoy the benefits of having the correct hormones in you :-)
