Lower Abdominal Pain different than pain I've had before.

I started having lower abdominal pain in the middle of my lower abdomen. The first few days it didn't go away no matter what. I passed gas and had bowel movements but it wouldn't go away. Now it seems to just come and go. I was diagnosed with ibs 5 years ago after a colonoscopy showed no polyps or anything wrong. The only bleeding I've has has been determined to be hemorrhoids and I only get dark black looking stool after drinking too much grape juice in which it goes back to normal after a few days. I have all of the other ibs symptoms and have had lower abdominal pain before but it was never like this and never lasted this long. Has anyone else with ibs ever have lower abdominal pain that lasted for thks long of a time before? Is this just a new symptom of ibs I'm having?

Hi obviously no one can diagnose you from a description, if it's totally different to your usual symptoms and is worse as well then you need to see your GP and get it checked out, he can examine you and feel for any impacted areas which could cause low abdominal discomfort, are you constipated or ok

I've been able to have bowel movements but have had a difficult time getting them out. And I have an appointment tomorrow with a gastroenterologist nurse practitioner who may be able to help. I last had a stomach scope and colonoscopy 5 years ago which came back normal so it's unlikely colon cancer because it takes polyps 7 to 10 years to become cancerous and no polyps were found. But it could be diverticulitis or an ulcer which would need treated. Is this a symptom of ibs what im having?

That's good that you are seeing someone as they can examine you, yes my pain with IBS was mostly situated in my lower abdomen often to the right side which sometimes freaked me out because it would be so bad I would think it was appendix, it took a fare bit of patience from my Doc to convince me otherwise, it would sometimes feel like a dragging pain as well, piles can also cause the same sort of pain, yea polyps take a while to grow and become cancerous, I was told same when I had my exploratory, let know how you get on

I seem to o my feel it once and a while now and mine was in the middle leaning left which could be diverticulitis. I've also read that a problem with the pelvic floor could be making me having a hard time getting stool out which could explained the bowel movement trouble I've been having along with the pain.

Remember to tell them about your inability to expel your motion's, this can definitely cause low pain

I saw the Physicians Assitstant today and was scheduled for am XRay of my digestive system and blood tests. I was told the pain is likely due to my having trouble passing stool. And she told me to take a low dose of Miralax to soften the stool because the stool softeners didn't help. And was told I may have used too much Imodium when I had diarrhea and mot to take any for a while.

My pain is lower left, but it also goes further up on the left and also towards the lower middle (which I kind of thought was more my bladder but maybe its referred)

I don't know if its IBS or not but I've had pretty much 24/7 discomfort for 3 months that seems to ease a little after a BM. I've seen a specialist who said either watch it for a while or have a colonoscopy but he doesn't think he will see much of anything.

One thing I've noticed which may or may not be relevant when you mention about difficultly passing does it seem like you cant quite...push the muscle or part of the bowel you need to? I'm having this myself at the moment, if its soft (which it generally should be because I'm taking stool softener to help with a hemorrhoid) its not too bad but if its a bit harder its not like it won't come out due to size or anything but more like you cant move the bit you need to? It's really weird! its like I'm losing control of the right muscles, I can strain even though it doesnt feel like I need to then I end up forcing a bit of pee out of something!

IBS pain can change and flare ups can be short lived or very prolonged.  My first flare up lasted for three and a half months.  Stress can prolong your flare ups.  Trouble passing stools can cause pain.
