Hello Everyone,

A year and a half ago I did an MRI scan for my back due to pain and the uploaded picture contains th ereport of that scan, at that time i started doing diet and going to the gym in order to lose weight and due to that i lost around 20 kgs in 2-3 month and the pain went away until 2 weeks ago, the pain came back but not like before too much pain, little bit pain only but i was conserned and went to the doctor today and he told me to do physiotherapy so i will start doing it from tommorow 5 sessions in total, i just want some advises in home and life; for instance, should i stay seated, should i play sports, can i sit on a couch for hours or should i walk a couple of minutes and come sit again. Like any advise would be appreciated even if its a tiny bit of advise you dont know it might be helpful for me. Thanks everyone for taking your time reading my post.

Note:

1- When i did the MRI scan a year and a half ago, i was supposed to do 10 physiotherapy sessions but i attended only 2 of them.

2- I Graduated recently from the university so the past 2 month i have been sitting at home for a long time without moving Watching TV while on couch and laptop while laying on Bed.

Hi there.  The only advice I can offer, if it hurts don't do it.  I would walk a little every day but not too far.  Then rest.  You will be doing a lot of resting and you are going to go crazy.  I know been there done that.

I, too had disc problems, which needed surgery.  So had the surgery.  Have you seen a pain management Dr.  If you can find one, I suggest you go. they have a totally different approach to pain.  It is hard for anyone to tell you how long you should do anything.  Listen to your body.  It will never steer you wrong.

Good luck and keep us posted.

I am a retired board certified pain management doc, so you can get advice for free.  Back when I started paractice in the 1980s conservative therapy for herniated discs was mandatory bedrest.  That did work, but it came at a price, it ate away at healthy muscles, and in a lot of people, it ate away at not so healthy muscles so that they became extremely debilitated just from our therapy.  Yes, their disc went back in, but now they couldn't get out of bed LOL.  Not a great situation.  From there it went to bedrest for no longer than one week.  If you still had pain, see a pain doc and get a set of at least 2, preferably 3 steroid injections epidurally to shrink the herniated disc back into place.  If injections were out of the questions, put the patient on a medrol dose pack just like you would for bad poison ivy.  After you got them started with some form of steroids, get them in physical therapy, no more laying around for 6 weeks deteriorating.  And, it has pretty much stayed that way, staying mobile during recovery has stayed important, just doing it smartly and under the care of a doctor of rehab or physical therapy.  It is important to do this right.  Just because you think you are either young or healthy, once you start with back troubles, you can have a life long affliction if you aren't careful that can lead you to seeking out a surgeon.  That's something you only want to do as a LAST RESORT!!!  Hope that helps....
