Lower back pain

Hi there, I was wondering if any could help or if anyone has or had anything similar to what I have. I'm a 20yr old female, For just over a month now I've been having a lot of lower back pain, it's like this horrible dull ache it hurts more on my right side but somethimes the pain spreads across the whole of my lower back. Sometimes it's hard to lift my right leg up to put my trousers on in the morning, other mornings it's not painful. Also I can't sit upright without my back being in pain, or lie flat on my back without it hurting, it's hard to find any position that's comfortable! I've been to the doctors and giving Codeine to help manage the pain and am waiting on a Physio appointment as the doctor wasn't so sure what was wrong, thanks to everyone who takes the time to read my situation and thanks to everyone that helps

i am not sure if my last message went through, do am repeating it. My first thought was a trapped nerve, and although A fellow sufferer I am no expert. I know you are waiting for Physio treatment, but I would seriously consider contacting an osteopath. A visit to mine always helps me and if it is a trapped nerve, they may be able to release it.

Sorry to hear about your pain and discomfort as back pain is very tiring as well as debilitating! It is possible that you are suffering from a muscular problem where the big muscle(s) in your back go into spasm. This condition can be extremely painful and is almost paralysing when it's in full flow. The other possibility of course is Sciatica which also fits with your symptoms. With either one, you need a good anti-inflammatory and some pain relief and although codine is good in lots of way, it can cause horrid constipation which you do NOT need when you have back pain! Ask your GP for an anti-inflammatory, he'll probably prescribe Naproxen which is effectivefor some or Diclofenac, my personal preference
If you combine this with regular Paracetamol which, when taken regularly at the same time every day is still one of the best pain relievers available. Good luck and hope you feel better very soon.
Best wishes,
Kim

An anti-inflammatory will help some but you will need to take it about every 4 hours during the day.
I personally would not recommend codeine, and asprin may give you stomach problems.Diclofenac is an alternative.
It's very important to keep moving as much as you can and a physiotherapist, chiropractor or osteopath may be able to help you with exercises to help stretch and strengthen you.
Going forward, it's a good idea to learn how to best manage the situation whenever it arises in the future whether that be through exercise and / or pain relief.
Hope this helps and you're much better soon.
