Lower back pain on left side after LTHR

Posted , 6 users are following.

Almost 3 weeks post op on left THR and woke this morning with very sore back, on the left right behind my hip. It hurts to bend over slightly and to climb back into bed. I don't think it would be dislocated because I wouldn't be able to walk. Right? Just don't know what I may have don't for it to hurt like this.

Any ideas anyone?? X

I tend to agree that you wouldn't be able to walk with a dislocation, also I think the pain would be severe, the glutamous Maxima's (think that's spelt right) is in that area and can become very weak and cause pain, what physio are you doing.

It could also be because you are sleeping on your back, have you used pillow under knee? 3 weeks is still early days though so deep massage and pain meds might help

Julie just an FYI....I was still walking on a dislocated hip. It hurt to walk but I was still walking and doing exercises!!! Didn't know it was dislocated until I went in for my checkup after surgery! Wound up having a hip revision within 3 weeks. But it may be that if your not used to sleeping on your back that could be causing the pain. Especially if mattress doesn't support your back well. I hated that! In rehab I was constantly moving the mattress to get comfy. To the dismay of my roommate! Lol! U know hospital beds are motorized and make noise as you move head or foot of bed!! Hope you feel better soon!! I know what's it's like to have sore back and trying to move!! 🤗 LD

Goodness would never have put that if I had known you could dislocate hip and still walk on it, I was told by surgeon it would be agony and leg wouldn't hold you up, will remember that next time someone asks and will also tell my orthopedic surgeon he's wrong, and we trust them to know don't we

I was told same thing! I guess I'm some freak of nature!! 😱👽. I went a week to week and a half. By the time I was going to get it fixed it was getting really hard and more painful to walk. My surgeon thinks that I have a high tolerance for pain. He was surprised 😳 too! Maybe it depends on how dislocated. Mine was caught up on cup. I had noticed that my hip was really high and when I laid down my on operated leg the foot was at touching ankle of oposite foot! I was freaking out but therapy didn't think much about since i was not in excruciating pain and still moving!! When I told her she freaked! LD

Well it's been a journey! I'm weight bearing but I still limp and need the crutch to help me. My knee has been an issue but been working on that and it's starting to bend more. I'm just so tight in the thigh and have that ugly lump when I sit. Nerves are waking up so no fun there either. Muscles hurt and are tender. One day at a time! I got to stay strong. Not always easy. Hope all is well for you!!! LD

How longs your journey been since revision, I'm nearly 19 weeks since heavy fracture of pelvis and hip, have had to go the conservative route and just started partial weight bearing 3 weeks ago, I also get tightness in muscles and sometimes it feels like your sitting on a metal bar LOL also I think knee can be a continues problem.

Crutches can be a real treat, I'm just not stable enough

Hi Julie- I got this too. My therapist said it was muscles trying to help the hip get going. She did some soft massage on the muscle I used heat then Ice and relaxed. It got better very quickly. Good luck!!
