I was on norethesterone for two weeks and my bleeding stopped. But after I stop to take the meds my period started in a week again (like brown discharge) and my doc said it's normal. And in 8-10 days it stopped itself without any meds.

Hi Lisa,
I am 49 too and have the problem for over a year now. At first it was severe back pain and I went to a spine doc to check it. Did MRI and they said I have a DDD what is usual in my age and nothing to worry about. And just after couple of month I started to bleed. And I was bleeding for 1,5 month until I couldn't keep it anymore (dizziness, light head, loosing weight, no energy, etc.) My gynecology put my on Progesterone and my bleeding stopped in two days. But I felt terrible - my iron was so down, I had severe anemia, terrible mood, heart palpitation, high blood pressure, panic attacks, and so on... It took almost a year to be normal again, I started to take Lexapro 0.5 mg what helped too (I still on it now). Long story to be short - I still have a low back pain, it's never gone, some days it's better but some days it's terrible. One more time I had a bleeding just in a year after the first one. I didn't wait this time and started the Progesterone (for couple of weeks only) earlier and it helped again.
Good luck with everything. I am researching the topic all the time and found that when I am not eating gluten, dairy and sugar my back pain is almost disappearing but as soon as I started to eat everything again it's back :-(
